Departure Wind Not Stable

Featured Replies

I can never get a stable departure wind direction with AS2012.

I know this program is great so it must be something I am doing wrong.  I have AS2012 SP2 on a networked computer and it seems to connect fine and give the weather that is on the Metar, except the wind direction.  I always start AS2012 first, load a flight plan and let AS2012 do its thing.  I then start FSX (normally with the PMDG 737NGX) and take note of the wind direction so I can determine the Take Off runway.

This is where the problem occurs, although the Metar wind in AS2012 may say 320/06 the direction nearly always is constantly moving + or - 60 degs or so.  Is this a problem with FSX or AS2012, I would assume as its a computer it would use 320/06 as a stable departure wind - but it never does.

What am I doing wrong ??

hello, if you have fsuipc installed you may click on normal defaults and weather setting off, i think fsuipc interferes with yr AS 2012 .

Iv'e noticed that sometimes following the same steps (I always start AS2012 first, load a flight plan and let AS2012 do its thing.  I then start FSX), that when the FSX flight first loads, the wind direction starts changing a few degrees per second until it gets to the correct direction. For example, the wind in AS2012 might be 270/15kts, but when the flight first loads its 359/15kts, then ticks down to 270/15kts, over the course of a few minutes. However other times the flight loads with the wind already in the correct direction. I've also tried hitting refresh AI when I am getting the tick down, but doesn't immediately result in the wind being the correct direction. Could be just due to using DWC and the wind smoothing component synthesizing the wind until it reaches the correct direction.

Also what I do during the count down, is assigned traffic zapper in FSUIPC to use a key stroke to vanish all AI until the wind is the correct direction to avoid the AI taking off in all sorts of directions until I get to the runway. As soon as the wind becomes stable, I then hit my FSUPIC hotkey to bring all the AI back online.

Yes this seems to be what I am getting and its possibly as you say takes some time before the wind settles down.

Could any of the Devs confirm this is by design or have we got something not setup correctly in the options ?

If you haven't done so already, submit a ticket on this and we can look into it furthur regarding setup options.
