I am unable to get into FSX.

Featured Replies

It may be a shot in the dark, but it if FSX hangs during startup then it could also be a corrupted logbook.bin.

Try to rename the file "My Documents\Flight Simulator X Files\logbook.bin" and see what happens.

OK... I finally managed to get back my good ole FSX. My Reality xp G530 is working too.

After a nightmare. I used my nuklear option of a complete restore from my disk image (Acronis) of both...my C: drive and my FSX Folder.

Luckily...I had backed up both of em on April 24th of this year. I had installed Skiothes Airport scenery, Airbus Extended 1.2 *Update) and FSUIPC since.

I had installed the FSUIPC since that "world is going to collapse" e-mail and also my PMDG 737 was not flying ok (It would not fly faster than 200 kts..and I read a thread saying that I need to re install FSUIPC or something).

The Acronis restore used to be so simple to restore to a HD. But with the SSD, I had to perform a minor brain surgery. But the important thing was that my backup was good. So after few erroneous attempt to restore, I finally managed to get it right and I am back and running.

So now I have the old FSUIPC.. I am not going to be updating this any time soon...so I have to live with the broken PMDG 737 an wait for the T7.

I got the Skiothes scenery re installed. This did not break anything.

The airbus x update also tends to break something..not sure what.. But I am happy with the original Airbus Extended so I have to live with that as well... Maybe when I get some time.. I may take another backup and then try re installing and test that out.

My beef is with Win 7 set restore point and recovery system.. Its broken its not working. When I set restore point, I then install something, there is no guarantee it can restore.. Which is disappointing../. so now I am shy about installing anything. IF my only choice of recovery is Acronis disk image recovery.

For now I am enjoying my Sim for a bit...and have put a freeze on any more addon purchase!

The restore program also has a backup and restore program in Windows 7.  You can backup all your personal stuff like pictures, documents and other items you might want to select (I would not use it to backup FSX through as the process would be long and tedious).  The system restore program is mainly used for recovering your system in the event of a virus or system crash.  You have to be careful with fsx backups and Acronis disk image recovery unless you reinstall every addon since the backup as many developers place security codes and items in the System Registry and these addons will no longer work or may cause FSX to crash.  You were lucky you recently backed up your system with Acronis.

Best regards,

Jim
