May 11, 201313 yr Hi all, Another noob trying to build an fsx computer... New to posting in avsim forums and computer building, but a long time user of fsx. Looking for advice on a build as i'm new to computer building and just want to make sure everything makes sense and I'm not doing anything stupid. The computer will be specific for fsx, using rex, gex, utx, pmdg ngx, on vatsim and three monitors. All on Win 7. The plan is to overclock it as much as possible. Here are the components I've chosen so far... I need to know how these will stack up with fsx, if i'm going overboard on anything, or there are any compatibility issues i should be aware of. May 11, 201313 yr That looks like a solid build. Just make sure that your cpu cooler will fit into the case. Ryan L.
May 13, 201313 yr I agree, that is a good, solid build for FSX if you're overclocking. One thing though, tally up the add-ons you plan on getting. I have FSX on a 250GB SSD and I'm already using 60% of its space. 120GB is fine for Win7, and for FSX with a modest set of add-ons its fine there too. But if you plan on investing in a lot of scenery, 120GB is likely going to be too little.

May 13, 201313 yr Agreed! May 14, 201313 yr Author Awesome, thanks for the replies! Went with the 2400 ram and also upgraded the SSD for fsx. Ordered from newegg, now just have to cross my fingers everything arrives good to go!
May 26, 201313 yr I built a very similar system to yours with an Asus GTX 660 TI. FSX is smooth as butter running DX10 with all the tweaks and setup prior to that. I mainly fly the NGX and can generally hit a locked 30fps unless heading into a large payware airport like Heathrow extreme. I cannot seem to get my processor to the magical 4.8ghz without pushing the voltage too far but is is sitting very nicely at 4.7ghz. One thing I cannot stress enough is to take your time installing FSX and tweaking properly. It took me a good solid day to install Win 7 & a basic FSX Good luck Richard Richard i7-12700K | Noctua NH-D15S Black Version | MSI Pro Z690 - A | 32 GB DDR4 3600 | Gigabyte Gaming OC 4090 | 1TB WD Blue NMVe (MSFS 2020) | 500 GB WD Black Gen 4 NVMe | 4TB WD Black Conventional | Fractal Design Torrent Case | Seasonic 1000W Gold Plus PSU | Thrustmaster Boeing Yoke | Honeycomb Throttle | Airbus Side Stick | Virpil Rudder Pedals | Sony X90K 55 Inch TV |
