Finally - MS recognise Pete Dowson's efforts!

Pete's contribution? Ummmm, well, FSUIPC costs about $28 US dollars so he's not 'contributing' as much as profiting :) Actually as it stands now, FSUIPC is more expensive that the Flight Simulator 2004 program itself - at least at most US retail outlets these days. All is good though, I'm a registered owner of FSUIPC too. Pete has made some serious bucks with this program and that's great as far as I'm concerned. I just don't consider payware programs contributions to the community as such :) Insert Flames here -------->

Rugerdog,You appear to have a selective memory or perhaps you haven't been around in the FS community for very long. Until v3 FSUIPC was free! Pete is now retired so I don't have a problem with him earning money from a skill. Doesn't everyone who is employed do the same?No flames from me - just discussion.

I hope he's making serious bucks... if anybody deserves it it's Pete Dowson.Greg

I think I paid 23 Euros ( about

i cant run FS because it says FSUIPC not compatible with the new patch which version do i need????? (3.2 now)cheersNick

You MUST have 3.4 (note about this in the upgrade Readme).Cheers,Greg

Oh c'mon Allcott, give the guy a break! He's Dutch, and we need everything repeated three times before we remotely understand it (grin)!Jaap Verduijn.

> Reading through the docs for the patch it's nice to see that> Microsoft have recognised the huge contribution made to FS by> Pete Dowson and advised you need a specific version of FSUIPC> for the patch to work correctly.>> Is this the first time Goliath has depended on David? Not to denigrate Dowson's contributions (or at least those he made when the software was freely available), but I think the above is a mischaracterization. The FS9.1 patch does not DEPEND upon FSUIPC to work. The exact quote from the readme file is: "Software that relies on FSUIPC may have problems running after installing the update. You can obtain the latest version of FSUIPC from ..."I don't run FSUIPC, and your quote makes it sound like I cannot even use the FS9 patch unless I have FSUIPC (I assume this was not your intention). Microsoft would not issue a patch that would cause their previously functional product to fail to work unless a 3rd party program was installed. The situation is rather closer to the opposite, if you think about it: with this patch Microsoft has actually DECREASED compatibility with FSUIPC (hence requiring an FSUIPC update by Dowson), and they are simply providing that information to users so that it doesn't come as a surprise.- David Sandberg

...... good on them, Pete's work is brilliant.Enough said, really. :)Josh

The>situation is rather closer to the opposite, if you think about>it: with this patch Microsoft has actually DECREASED>compatibility with FSUIPC (hence requiring an FSUIPC update by>Dowson), and they are simply providing that information to>users so that it doesn't come as a surprise.>Not to sure about the word"DECREASED" up there............IMHO Pete Dowsons work enables the full potential of FS9 to become available to those that choose to use the simulator for and with other applications ( EG: many addonsd, online flying etc). The very fact that the latest FSUIPC- tailored to suit the patch- was available on Pete's site several days before MS released the patch suggests to me that- at the very least- MS had informed Pete of any implications for the patch and FSUIPC.It also suggests to me that maybe in the future we may see more co-operation/interaction between MS and FS addon makers thus improving software compatability.I can't imagine running FS9 without FSUIPC - but - that's just my preference.BTW - as I have already said elsewhere - the patch DOES RUN with the earlier V3.3 FSUIPC.Dave
