May 15, 201313 yr Hello, I am looking for decent Mesh and Scenery files for Central and northern california for FSX. I am aware FTX Global is possibly coming out 15 June and I may purchase this depending on price and circumstance. I do have Megascenery So Cal already and FTX Pacific Northwest - but there is this scenery gap I wish to fill for North and central California Can anyone suggest either decent freeware or payware (I don't want the whole USA) that offers MESH and Landclass scenery? Browsing online it seems there is a deficit in this area as far as my searching the Internet goes Any suggestions or help greatly appreciated Thanks Ray
May 15, 201313 yr http://www.blueskyscenery.com Their Northern California stuff is pretty good. I should add, it doesn't have any autogen but in the northern part of the state you're generally flying over. I do leave 'holes' where there are airports where I fly in and out of...Eureka, Napa, Sacramento. I also have Cities X San Francisco. May 15, 201313 yr Author Thanks Greg I was browsing Megascenery X when you replied. I have to say that even at US $7.49 a download area, their pricing adds up really quickly to a lot of money so thanks for the Bluesky link. A lack of autogen is ok for flying Tube liners however, I am looking forward to FTX Global so this will do admirably for now ! Ray
May 16, 201313 yr Be aware that Orbx is also planning to release NorCal as a region (which will extend from PNW to just south of San Francisco) later this year. Orbx regions will still offer far more than FTX Global, though if you're primarily flying tubes and not going into default airports, Blue Sky will work very well. Scott
May 16, 201313 yr I know you don't want the whole US, but I'm using the FSGenesis mesh. It seems good to me and is 10m resolution. I use it because I had a 3 year galaxy membership back in FS2004 and have full access to most of their products, so I don't know if there is anything better out there now. You can get the whole US for $39 though http://www.fsgenesis.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=USDEM-X&Category_Code=CONTX and then their landclass for the US is $10 http://www.fsgenesis.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=X-LCUS&Category_Code=LCX I suspect your only option for CA only mesh is to find a payware package which might cost the same, or some freeware mesh project. I'm personally looking forward to FTX Global myself. From what I understand it will come with landclass so I may get rid of the FSGenesis one depending on if it's supposed to be accurate or not for the US. I'm thinking FTX Global textures with nice mesh will be awesome. I'm definitely going to be tracking this thread though and checking out suggestions people give. I fly NorCal too and we definitely need some scenery AMD Ryzen 9950X3D | Asrock X870E Taichi | Gigabyte Gaming OC 4090 w/EK waterblock | Full Custom Loop Cooling | Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5-6000 | Samsung & WD NVME/SSDs | Phanteks Enthoo 719 | Seasonic Vertex Gold 1200W | Keychron Q5 Max | Corsiar Scimitar Elite SE Wireless | Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo | Logitech Pro Flight Pedals | VKB Gladiator Pro NXT L&R handed | MiniCockpit MiniFCU | Alienware AW34DWF | Asus PG279Q | Win 11 Pro
May 16, 201313 yr Author thanks Scott yes I was aware of that regional Orbx is more detailed than Global will be - but must admit I had forgotten they are working on Norther Cal. All good really !!! Flyinion thanks for your pointers. I did consider FSGenesis - but there is only so many limited dollars on tap here - I really need to try to keep my spending under some form of control (Recent out of control spend - Majestic Q400. Don't regret it a bit - just cringing about the shared Credit card bill about to hit my Partner in the face soon.) Thanks for the heads up tho'. I might just take the Bluesky freeware and begin the wait for Global FTX and FTX Northern Cal.... Ray
May 16, 201313 yr Just stay away from MegaSceneryEarth....it's terrible quality. I mean TERRIBLE QUALITY!

May 16, 201313 yr Author I have now downloaded Bluesky scenery and while the colours are a little garish (too blue, too sickly green) it does the purpose for now.. It does add a sense of direction and authentication in terms of actually looking like a giant urban sprawl. But what I like most is the surrounding hills now take on a proper sense of dry grass. I have Aerosoft's San Francisco and put this scenery a layer below that - combined they look quite nice. I find around 3.5k to 5k feet offers the best viewing. And roger that, I will stay away from MegaScenery Earth - although in saying that, I have no complaint with Megascenery So Cal. Thanks Fellas Ray

That was my impression as well from the screen shots. I may check some out just to see. Their night lighting stuff kinda threw me off as well though. I agree about ME SoCal...extremely nice. In terms of BlueSky, I think you'll notice that the northern California colors are nicer than their southern stuff but their overall quality has been improving as of late, IMO. Also, if you read this thread you can fill in Santa Barbara in a nice way. The top screenies are at dawn but the bottom ones will show you what it's like during the day. http://forum.avsim.net/topic/407754-pony-santa-barbara-to-napa-at-dawn/ Gregg Seipp "A good landing is when you can walk away from the airplane.
