May 17, 201313 yr Looking for a program that will decompile and recompile cab files from FS9 & FSX, so that I may edit them correct if there is a problem, or to create and add new cab files. I know that winrar and various other compressors will decompile but they wont recompile. Looked everywhere on the net cant seem to find any that work. Not familiar with MS cab sdk or any C++, so need a program that is just click and use, simple. Aircraft designers must know of such a program that can assist me. Thanks Ron
May 17, 201313 yr Hi. I believe that cabdir.exe in the SDK will do the re-compiling? You should install the SDK. Bob.
May 17, 201313 yr Moderator You do not need to install the FSX SDK to get the cabdir.exe utility. You can download and install the CABDIR SDK from fsdeveloper.com: http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/downloads.php?do=file&id=30 If you create add-ons for Flight Simulator, you can use the Cabdir utility (cabdir.exe) to combine all the folders and files in a directory into a single .cab file (similar to a .zip file), simplifying the process of distributing files to end-users, whether they download the file from a Web site or install it from a CD or floppy disk. You can use a setup utility to extract and install the files for end users or explain that they can manually view and copy files in the .cab file. Fr. May 17, 201313 yr Author I am awere of the CABDIR I have it installed with the FSX SDK however I cannot figure it out, it works in dos mode and I cannot get the file to compile dont understand the swiches requred to compile to get to the root folder or files I want as a cab file. Easy enougth to decopile with winrar and edit or assemble the files I want in the cab file, but for the life of me I cant quite grasp the basic commands to achive this in dos. That's why I was wondering if there was a file that would do all this at a click of a button. Ron
May 17, 201313 yr Drop your folder on the cabdir.exe and it will output a .cab file in that folder. regards, Joe The best gift you can give your children is your time.
May 18, 201313 yr Moderator As an even easier alternative, create a Desktop Shortcut for the cabdir.exe program, then move that new Shortcut to your computer's ../SendTo folder. From now on, simply click on the folder you wish to CAB, (1) right-click and choose (2) "SendTo" (3) "CABDIR" from the popup. Voila! Instant .CAB file... Uploaded with ImageShack.us Fr.
