Putting in custom bridges?

Featured Replies

First off I would just like to say Hello and thanks for having me in your community, however this is not the appropriate time for hellos. for I have a NOVICE SCENERY QUESTION!

Alright so I have been looking around the net and it doesn't appear to be a very popular question asked (or my internet searching just sucks) but anyway I have a specific scenery question. I like to do a lot of flying in Tri-Cities, Washington

As you can see a distinctive feature are those 3 bridges. Is there anyway I can add those bridges to the default scenery? The main bridge, known as the cable bridge

already has a sketchup model and I know you can edit scenery with sketchup (from what I've read) I have never edited FSX scenery before so I apologize for my novice-ness. Thanks in advance!

Most sketchup models are not intended for FS/game use as they are way to detailed with to many texture sheets (more sheets = more drawcalls to degrade performance) to wprk well. if you still intend to use them, you can pick them apart and make them less detailed and retexture them with a single sheet. Then export as .DAE collada format and use ModelconverterX (from FSDeveloper.com) to change it to an .MDL which can be made into a library and is read by instant scenery and can be placed in FS.

Yeah I tried that with a tutorial but I have NO IDEA what I'm doing. I have a feeling nobody will want to help me, but I mean if anyone if feeling bored...http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=701bb7ab34dec1554bfeffad2879033

I would also settle for just a suspension bridge or something that looks similar in that spot.

First off welcome.

Have you checked to see if there is a freeware or payware scenery available for Washington?

There may be a model maker out there that may have made them for their own use and willing to share. Bridges arnt the quickest things to make but you may be lucky.

I've looked far and wide but there is no scenery for my city, or includes my city in Washington. And I hope I get lucky.

The ORBX Northern Rocky Mountains scenery (NRM) does include your city and the three bridges, however, the bridges do not have the destinctive designs.

What do you mean when you say they do not have distinctive designs?

A picture is worth a thousand words..

Alright I get it, however it kinda defeats the purpose because the Bridges are the major landmarks of the three cities and having them just be a default bridge makes it just some city. I'm downloading this now nonetheless until I can find an alternative

You purchased ORBX Northern Rocky Mountains scenery just for the 3 bridges?

You could say that, yes.

If you live in an area, getting the best scenery available for that area makes a ton of sense, to me, at least..

Exactly my point. Which is why I am desperate for these bridges

Having looked at this area again, I feel like a complete idiot

The Yakima region is actually in the Orbx Central Rocky Mountain region, not the "Northern"...

Adding insult to injury, the screenshot I posted, must be default FSX scenery, because I do not have

CRM installed, only NRM...

I can only hope that you figured out the region you need for your home town, and that maybe

the bridges look better than in my screenshot....

Sorry for the confusion!

Bert
