June 16, 201312 yr Ok, not a good day in my house. My flightsim rig crashed to a blue dump screen now it freezes at the win7 start up screen. It wont boot in safe mode either. It hangs on the win7 startup page then gives me a Boot disc error. Startup repair fails as does system restore. Ive tried unplugging everything and cleaning etc but no joy. I really dont want to have to reinstall everything as its taken years of tweaking to get a good setup. ANY suggestions welcome. Thanks Alan
June 16, 201312 yr Have you tried resetting the BIOS? Remove the CMOS battery for hard reset. Joe Brown
June 16, 201312 yr Try re-seating the ram or take out all ram and replace one stick at a time. June 16, 201312 yr Hi, Commiserations..we've all been there - several times in my case. Don't waste any tears. Yes its a pain but every time I've re-installed, what I get is better than what I had before. I'd even go as far as to say that a completer re-install every few years is essential. What's the error message you get/got when you get a blue screen? That should give you a clue, eg whether its hardware or Windows related. Then google the error message... Hope it helps and good luck. Ray
June 16, 201312 yr Had similar experience a couple of weeks ago. Got into the BIOS ok but nothing else. Looking through the BIOS I found that one of the 4 HDDs was not showing in the list. Removed the drive and all was well. Then placed the drive that I had removed into an Enclosure (USB) and copied the data onto another drive. I then formatted it on another PC and all was well. It would seem the MFT on that drive was corrupted by me having a power outage during Boot earlier in the day. Thus the BOOT stopped at the Windows Loading. Lucky that it wasn't the C drive and it was only my scenery storage drive. Hope my tale of woe is of some help. Arnie....if it ain't broke, don't fix it...
June 16, 201312 yr Hiya, If the HDD is the problem all may not be lost. Here is what I would do: Attach a new, same size or bigger, HDD to the system via a USB HDD enclosure. Get Acronis true image software on a disc and boot said computer into Acronis using this disc. Then clone the old drive to the new drive. If your HDD is failing this may not work or may take a really long time to complete. If it works you have a complete bootable copy of your HDD. Nice thing to have when you need it in any case. I do this after my software install is complete then put it on the shelf just in case. The above troubleshooting ideas are good ones. Good luck
June 16, 201312 yr Commercial Member Google bootcfg /rebuild, has worked for me over the years many times. As others have mentioned all is not lost, your file structure is more then likely intact. Worst case install a new drive with Win7, your old drive will still be available with all your addons tweaks etc. Rob Prest
