Seems to be an ILS.  In real world the new runway is 26.  But the freq is the same.

Works fine for me in FSX... stock C172

When you say you use navigraph do you mean you're flying it in a B737 with navigraph support?

Yea, and I use FS commander to make my flight plans, and was wondering if there could be an issue there. Also on this last flight I only used Nav 1, not Nav 1 and nav 2.  to try to land. Could this have caused me not to start descent?

No, because the FSX autopilot can't use NAV2 for ILS approaches guidance.

Are you on fsx flight plan with atc?  How were you navigating prior to ATC giving you vectors to final?  GPS, VOR etc?

Hi, Dragonmount,

Glad you made a successful landing using the ILS!

Regarding your most recent issue, I don't think using Navigraph or FS Commander would be causing the problem.  If their data disagreed with the ILS frequency in your FS X, you would know it, as you wouldn't see a localiser or GS at all

Be sure you're capturing the glide slope from BELOW (the little balls (HSI) or bar (NAV1) would be up high)

A few aircraft will capture the GS from above but many won't so that would be something to check.  Even if you go into Appr mode and it looks like you are right on the GS, you might be a little above it and so not capture it.

You ask if the Autopilot and Altitude Hold should be on.  The Autopilot a definite yes.  Alt Hold should be on before you activate Approach (or Loc), but if you press it after you press Approach, you might be cancelling Approach mode.  Typically, you intercept the localizer at a steady altitude, Alt Hold on, but after you press Approach, GS mode is armed, and as soon as you intercept the GS (dot or horizontal line are in center of the display), Alt Hold goes off and the aircraft starts to descend.  Alt Hold should no longer be on.

In my test flight I have you set NAV 2 just so the DME's would agree and not cause confusion. NAV 2 is only used for VOR and not ILS, though the DME and LOC will work. The NAV 2 indicator, in the C-172, doesn't have a GS needle. NAV 2 is not tied to the autopilot so the NAV function, aalso, doesn't work.

On intercept course the HDG and ALT buttons are on. When the LOC needle starts to move off the peg inside 25 miles, push APP. The HDG button will go off indicating LOC capture. When the GS needle gors active inside 18 miles, the GS needle wil peg up. When the needle centers, the ALT button will go off indicating GS capture. This is at a max of 5,000 feet, closer in you have to be lower to keep the needle above center. If the needle is below center the GS will not capture.

I did notice on a second test flight that I somehow forgot to turn off AS2012 when I turned on REX and that I think messed up RC4. I kept noticing the sky kept trying to look one way, then another. It was quite odd. :). I am not a new fs pilot, simply returning from a long time of not flying much. Most of my errors tend to be stupid things I should remember.  I do think though that that is what happened. I noticed that I had somehow went out of ALT hold mode, and I went back into it.

At my age it happens more ofton than I would like!
