How to park at a gate?

Recommended Posts

I'm still struggling to get perfect parking at the gate with GSX saying my parking is rubbish! is there a technique to knowing when to turn as i always seem to wither overshoot or undershoot and end up parking askew.

Dont worry about it.. GSX is very critical of your parking no matter how you do it!

Depends on the size of the aircraft. On a 737/A320 wait until you're just a little bit beyond the line and make the turn. Try to carry just a little bit of speed into the turn to keep your momentum. Once you're lining up you want to be at no more than 2-3 knots and gentle corrections either side. Easy on the gas. And ignore GSX, it's pretty harsh!

As far as turning and overshooting is concerned:

- Slow really down before starting your turn (< 10 kts)

- Try to find some visual cues (taxiline 'cutting' through a specific spot of your window, for example) that help you lining up

... and never (!) end up like this (no one hurt here):

A trick that helps me in a 737/A320 is keeping the taxiway line aligned with my right leg (Flying from the capt. seat). But GSX is always nitpicky. I've had GSX for around a year and I have only parked perfectly once.

Thanks,

Ah Ok! i did a test and loaded a 747 using the beam me there feature and GSX said my parkign was bad even though it did it itself!

Hey!  What's wrong with the way I park 'em?  No one was hurt and any landing (or parking) that you walk away from is a good one.
