RealEngine for FSX/FS2004 - realistic aircraft limitations and failures

Recommended Posts

A nice little tool I've found, testing it right now: RealEngine 1.4

http://www.fs2000.or...ft-limitations/

From the download page:

"RealEngine v1.4 Aircraft Limitations. RealEngine v1.4 fails systems and engines of piston aircraft if operating limitations are exceeded. Limitations modeled: MP / RPM / power, CHT, oil temp, oil press, lean/rich roughness, spark plug fouling, gear/flaps overspeed. Added vs v1.1/v1.2: easier configuration, realistic CHT model, mini status panel. Can be fully configured for individual aircraft."

I could get it to work with the RealAir Duke, except for the CHT which does not seem to work together very well. Anyone has experience with it? Anyway, it kind of adds to the experience when you want to have more 'control' on the failures which happen without FSP. I have it runnning with AccuFeel, no problems.

Cheers,

Andreas

Intresting, is it easy to set up and how realistic do you feel it is? Could be something to have while waiting for more Accusimmed aircrafts as I love these kind of things...Then I could reinstall some of my carenados because failures is the main reason I don't use them :rolleyes:

It is relatively easy, the documentation is quite extensive. However, you'll have to mess a bit with the respective panel.cfg, although it's just adding some entries. When the panels (three) are installed, you will have to configure the engine data for the aircraft. Most of the things you can take from the gauges (max values e.g. where the red begins ;-) ), or you take the values from the user manual.

It also offers the option to add both a Oil Temp and CHT gauge if your aircraft doesn't have those. For the Duke, Oil Temp works fine, CHT not, but I don't want to mess with it.

I'll have to check this out tommorow. Thanks for sharing, had no idea that this program existed and it's even for free B)

Andy,

The creator of RealEngine, teson1, can usually be found in the Multiplayer Forum or you could send him an e-mail; he responds very quickly.

The program is used by the MP crowd to evaluate Aircraft Performance for the Round The World Race held every February and for other MP events.

Hi,

Alan made me aware of this discussion (thanks), so I thought to drop in to offer any help if needed.

While i believe setting up RE has become much easier compared to earlier versions, there still can be some stumbling blocks.

But you're managing fine as far as I can see.

Just a small note:

> For the Duke, Oil Temp works fine, CHT not, but I don't want to mess with it.

That's a good plan. RE is not intended to necessarily be flown with every option turned on. Just turn off any module you dont like in the status panel. It'll remember such settings from flight to flight.

If there's any issue or question just holler here, or send me a PM at flightsim.

BR.

Thanks for your support offer, highly appreciated! :-)

It is indeed not difficult to set it up, I did even learn something about CHT and what actually is behind those never-failing flightsim engines. As you wrote already in the manual, the stress and tension about whether it will fail or not is something which I personally missed from FSX.

Do you have any plans on extending the functionality with additional models? E.g. extensive stress to the wings ... ;-)

Thanks for this tool!

Cheers,

Andreas

Hmmm, I can't get this thing to work. Can't open the conf mini panel. Tried it with the carenado c185 tundra.

It should work using the following steps:

1. Copy the unzipped folder RealEngine_v14 to the FSX/Gauges/ folder

2. Open RE_Parameters folder within the RealEngine_v14 folder, make a copy of 'RE_Parameters_AIRCRAFT.ini', rename the copied file to something like this: RE_Parameters_C185Tundra

3. Go the folder RealEngine_v14/Installation - Documentation and open the file RE_panel_cfg_entry_v14.txt in a text editor and leave it open

4. Go to your aircraft's panel folder under FSX/Simobjects/Airplanes/YOURAIRCRAFT/panel

5. Make a copy of the panel.cfg, place it somewhere where its safe. Now open the original panel.cfg which is in the panel folder

6. Under [Window Titles] add the three entries from the RE_panel_cfg_entry_v14.txt:

Window08=RealEngine_StatusPanel_Mini
Window09=RealEngine-StatusPanel
Window10=RealEngine_StatusPanel_CHT

Change the numbers after Window to the next in line according to the original entries under [Window Titles]

7. Next is to simply copy the entries for [Window08], [Window[09], and [Window10] from the RE_panel_cfg_entry_v14.txt and insert those lines below the the last original [WindowXX] entry in the panel cfg of your tundra. Be careful to copy everything from the  RE_panel_cfg_entry_v14.txt since the [Window08] section is very long while the other two sections are short

8. Under the [Window08] section of the freshly inserted lines search for the gauge02 entry and change the name of the .ini reference to something like this, depending on how you named the file you created earlier in RE_Parameters folder:

RE_Parameters_C185Tundra

It should look like this:

gauge02=RealEngine_v14\RE_Parameters\dsd_xml_config_v21!config,5,5,5,, .\Gauges\RealEngine_v14\RE_Parameters\RE_Parameters_C185Tundra.ini

9. If you want the minipanel to remain visible in the Virtual cockpit, you'll have to add the following lines under the [VCockpit01] section of your aircrafts panel.cfg, where XX refers to the next number in line according to the previous entries under [VCockpit01]:

gaugeXX=RealEngine_v14\dsd\dsd_window_status2!window_status, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1
gaugeXX=RealEngine_v14!RE_KeepMiniStatusPanelOpenInVC, 0, 0, 1, 1

Hope it helps,
cheers,
Andreas

Nice find! Sounds like a great addon to my Lancair Legacy!

you will have to configure the engine data for the aircraft

I'm not home so I can't check and test this myself yet, but how and where do you have to configure that data? And it is possible to save and exchange that data? If so, maybe someone can create that data for the RealAir Lancair Legacy...? So I can immediately start using this addon when I get home without having to figure out all that data myself LOL

It should work using the following steps:

I did exactly those steps, and when I loaded the plane in the FSX menu I got a popup to run the gauges module and I clicked "run", so it seems I got it right. But I can't find the config panel in the sim. Frustrating, I really want this thing :wacko:

Edit: I tried pushing the engine over it's limits and get failure.... But I cant find the control panel to configure those failures...weird. Could it be that it's incompitable with this plane?

Im gonna try it on one of the default planes to see..

@J van E You can edit the data while in FlightSim or in the ini file. Although it is better to configure it in the flightsim as you can test it out immediately.

@Kaboki The config panel is a panel view, so you might want to try if you can find it in the View --> Instrument panel or try to open it with any combination of Shift-1 to Shift-9. There should be three panels in there. If that doesn't help, teson1 is the developer (see post above) and I think he would be happy to help. :)

I tried to open all the panels there is but I don't get the right one. I only get some instrument gauges to show. I was hoping @teson1 would pop in here soon, as I can see he follows this topic...

Maybe you can post your panel.cfg, so I can have a look quickly?  B)
