June 28, 201312 yr What's the best working* texture format for DX10? DXT5? DXT in general? In .bmp form? In .dds form? I've played a bit with DX10 and found it slightly smoother and faster than DX9, which is good. Some AI aircraft, however, do not have textures (which might or might not be DX10's fault) and massed transparent textures (like clouds or smoke sprites) cause quite a framerate drop. So yeah, what format should I have ImageTool convert my textures (AI aircraft, sky, cloud textures) to? *Most compatible and fastest. 7950X3D + 7900 XT + 64 GB + Linux | 4800H + RTX2060 + 32 GB + Linux My add-ons from my FS9/FSX days
June 30, 201312 yr DDS. That's the format for FSX SP2 and Acceleration. Anything earlier than Acceleration/SP2 may not be compatible. This is why you should maybe invest in the Addon Converter X which converts old textures on the fly for DX10. Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! June 30, 201312 yr Author DDS. I see. Nope, I'm not going to invest money I don't have in a add-on I don't really need. Imagetool and a batch script will have to do. 7950X3D + 7900 XT + 64 GB + Linux | 4800H + RTX2060 + 32 GB + Linux My add-ons from my FS9/FSX days
June 30, 201312 yr Do not expect your untextured AI or other aircraft to become textured. If they are FS9 models, regardless of the texture format, they will be white.

July 1, 201312 yr I would suggest against using Image Tool to batch convert anything with an alpha channel. It has a nasty habit of removing the alpha using a batch script, which will cause severe stuttering. Instead I would use ConvimX or DXTBMP for that. It's not fast but it works properly. Tommy
July 1, 201312 yr Author ConvimX I did not know about that one, but from the description, it looks bloody promising! Thanks! - Edit: Well, too promising. It is only aware of image files in th currently selected folder and not those in any subfolder. Good for general folders, but bad for, i.e. aircraft or AI folders. 7950X3D + 7900 XT + 64 GB + Linux | 4800H + RTX2060 + 32 GB + Linux My add-ons from my FS9/FSX days
