This cannot be happening

Recommended Posts

Well folks this is just about the end of the line for me and FSX.

I'm going to have to find a new hobby after about twenty three + years.

I cannot believe that fsx has gotten worst than better after all the advancement in computers.

I cannot believe this new problem I'm having , and I'm stuck and cannot go forward

, I don't have the will or patients to fix this.

My problem now is that when I open fsx to play and try to open my views to move around on my screens they won't open where you can see them they are there they are just invisible.

I only get the front main view .

This is a whole new problem and it is a game stopper, in fact I have reloaded Fsx several times .

I have the gold addition , and after loading the fsx gold it will work one time as to openi g a view in windowed or full mode.

After that no more opening a view , you can open a view but you cannot see it.

This is a major game changer as I cannot correct this problem.

I'm running 5 Monitors with 3770k@4.5, w7 64 ult, 285 vid,.

I truly cannot believe this is happening , I'm at a lost for words on why this is happening , more and more goes wrong as time goes on with Fsx.

So what is the solution for this fix if there is one.

I'm at a complete stand still at this point.

Thanks again for your help....................twenty year flyer Robert

Hi Robert,

You should really consider FS9 again..I am running it on 3+1 monitors, Really good Ground and Water Textures (REX, Zinertek, GE Pro, Ult Terrain), Great Airport Addons, All Sliders to the right, Active Sky evolution, FS Build 2.4, FS Captain, SPAD, All running on one PC and I get 25-30 frames consistently. Very Stable (Yesterday I flew from EICK to GCRR 3.5hrs without a hitch).

I tried FSX and chucked it..

Spec..

Dell XPS 8200 i7

8GB Ram

GTX 550ti

Did you ever have more than 5 monitors? The reason I ask is that I have helped a few people with a a problem similar, outside of FSX. They would open an application and not see it. It turned out they once had 2 monitors connected but were down to only one. The application was launching but not visible because it was off screen.

Have you considered simplifying your set-up?  It's got to be better than just dumping the whole sim.

I used to have a big complex setup too, but the more stuff we add to the sim, the more unstable it gets.  Now it's just one big monitor for me.

This is the FSX CTD forum.  You did not have a CTD.  You will get the best advice by posting down in the AVSIM Hardware Monitor forum where discussions of multiple monitors are frequently discussed.

Best regards,

Jim

Well folks I must say I'm really at a lost on if its worth it anymore , this software is like nothing I have ever dealt with.

My experience with this software and hardware is high, been doing this so long it's a part of my life and marriage:).

Could not fly In real life so I got Into simming , started with one Mac computer (5613 )

Started flying using a Macitosh and found it limited in flying resorses , and started building PC,s.

That's when one monitor went to two , three then four then five. In reality I'm really running a eight monitor set up running three networked computers and networked software.

In fact I have been using several monitors when 98 was the operating system. Microsoft flightsim taught me a ton about computers and video cards , enough to get me to school and get my A+ and N+ in computers.

This was after all the years of building computers to get my credintuals , and found that experience wins out.

My problem with FSX it seems alive and fluid , as the computing world got more and more advanced the more fsx gets worst.

Three or fours years ago the same set up I had little problems and absolutely no lock up well maybe a few but no where near the problem I'm having today .

Perhaps going back to FS9 is a good try as to get rid of this having a computer pushed to 4.6 and beyond to get it run .

Here is my Set up.

Computer 1. 3770k@ 4.5 , W7, 64, ult , gtx 285 , 3 Tera hd , 8 gig 1866 ram,

FSX accellated , g boost, Rex, opus fsx , wideview, widetraffic, fsuipc , level d,

Computer 2. 2660k @ 4.2 , W7 64 ult, gtx 9800 , 1 Tera hd. 4 gig, level d , Rex,

Opusfdx,

Computer 3. 3400 amd@ 2.6 , w7 64 ult , onboard graphics , radar contact , flightsim commander, fsbuild .

Been networking our awhile .

I may have to revamp my set up but as far as FSX I'm out of magic tricks and patience ,

Thought about Prepard3d but from what I'm reading its not a upgrade from my vantage point

And besides I have enough headaches for free.

At this moment not for sure where to go , use to know which direction to go , have none this time.

After all the tweaking and following directions to to the letter a half million times, and reloading and reloading and reloading and more reloading and tons of fixes , it ain't getting better in fact it's causing me to rethink my abilities.

As far as my hardware it's in good order .

My system with the 3770k I even delidded the CPU to get lower heat temps and I did it with temps at full load thru prime 95 and Occt. Temps at full load for 4 or more hours never got above 59 or 60c at full load .

After reloading Fsx from scratch for the billionth time with all fixings there was not guarantee that it would run , might run at the beginning but would deteriorate in the end.

And now this problem with the views now has me baffled , never have I seen that one.

So now I'm looking at my set up having not a clue in which direction to go other than reloading everything including the operating system.

I even ran FSX without no add ons just vanilla and that view problem came up , it worked one time.

But my love for this sim , I will reload everything from scratch and hope I get it right so that I can get in a flight or two before it starts to fail.

Or go to just one screen and one computer and maybe one add on and sacrifice all just to enjoy flying.

You Folks are a great help to me and thank for hearing me vent ..........Robert

Wow that's quite a setup, between all the PC hardware, overclocks, programs, and network connections, etc...  I can see how it's hard to figure out what is causing problems.

I used the FS-GS service along time ago and Michael(RIP) told me that the complex Level-D sims require 1 hour upkeep for 1 hour flying.

I can't afford to spend that much time, so I recently mega-simplified, 1 PC, 1 Monitor, 1 Overclock.

Good luck.

Well i have never used FS9 but after what people say about it that might be your solution if you wish to stay with MFS. However, i recommend X plane 10

Hi Robert,

maybe this is a driver problem. I had a similar, yet not exactly the same problem a few years ago on FS9 ( I still use FS9 an have so much fun with it ). Back then my problem was that the UI menu at the top did not show up when hitting the ALT key. It was there, I was able to select menu options, if I clicked on a spot where it should have been. It was just not visible. I went totally crazy, trying everything up to reinstall FS several times without sucess. In the end it turned out to be a driver issue with the nVidia Detonator driver which was up to date back then ( don't recall the version, but that doesn't matter here anyway ). I reinstalled the previous driver and there the menu was  :yahoo: .

So, while I am not exactly in the "if it isn't broken, don't fix it" - corner, that issue was solved by installing by an older but proven stable driver version.

Maybe you are facing a similar situation at the moment. It might even be an other driver, not just the video card drivers, there are many possible causes which are not related to FS, but affecting FS in a negative way. Don't give up too fast.

cheers

Mike
