Prop Textures

Featured Replies

I need a 4 bladed prop texture for FSX that can be inserted in a texture sheet. I have a woai Dash 8 that has the prop texture on the main sheet and  I keep getting a black circle when it is running. If I had a texture that will show right I think I can paste it in the main texture and the alpha.

I guess I need to know if I should go lighter on the main sheet ( I'm almost totally black now) or should it be done on the alpha ( It's black too now.)

Thanks

The default Dash 8 has the prop textures separate. This one is an AI and the prop is on the sheet with the main textures.

Format is DXT3.. Default is 32 bit.

OK I see.

That woai  Dash is an original livery wich works OK with Fs9?

You made no changes to this plane and it just does not work in FSX?  contact WOAI.

Itr works fine just the prop part of the texture doesn't work and is black. I have not chaned the texture at all except to try and make the prop part to show as a prop normally would. These are AI made for FS9 and except for the prop work fine. I added the exit info to the aircraft.cfg and it even works the Jetways

Hi Joe, only thing I can see that is different is the file format? Have to tried saving it as 32bit? Not that it will probably affect it, but make sure mip mapping is off/on as per the original file. Only other thing I can thing of is the alpha channel...!

I tryed with the 32 bit textures. I made sure that I had the alpha in place. Prop  is still black when the engines are running. Only change is that clouds and buildings and trees are now in front of the prop.

Hi Joe,

I understand it's from WOAI, but your image tells me what I was asking for.
The AI model was made by FSPainter and then later used by a group called ProjectAI.
Now WOAI uses this model from FSPainter (which is really old).

The PAI/FSPainter Dash8 props work fine in FS2004, so it maybe a FSX / DX9 / DX10 compatibility issue as mentioned by Leen3131cs.

Here:s the Dash 8 in FS2004:

Here is the texture image

Here is the alpha image

Hope this may help....

I can confirm that I also have this issue of the "black prop" on the Dash 8 in FSX.  I'm sure it is the circumstance that RJ is talking about.  Is there any way we can get around it to fix it?

Greg .... that is what I'm trying to do. I know it's old, I know it's for FS9, But I have a traffic file that took quiet a while to compile and it's made by me. Only one copy of that file. I have three of these textures and all three have black props. This is the only flaw in the whole thing.

I really would like to fix this.

It certainly appears to be an issue with FSX when using AI models that don't have a separate texture file mapped for props.  Not sure if there is a fix after doing some searching on this topic.

Like you Joe, all my AI traffic bgl files are hand made by myself and I understand your pain.  If you don't find a fix and you DO NOT want to re-compile your traffic file, I can only offer one suggestion.

Substitute your PAI/FSPainter model with The Fruit Stand Dash 8 model.

1.  Download The Fruit Stand (TFS) Dash8-300 from here.
2.  Download all the textures you need for the new TFS Dash 8 that match your current PAI/FSPainter folders (three textures total?)
3.  Merge TFS Dash8-300, to make it look like the PAI/FSPAinter model by doing something like this:
a. Copy all your [fltsim.x] sections from your old PAI/FSPainter aircraft.cfg file and paste them in the new TFS Dash8 aircraft.cfg.
b. Rename the TFS Dash8 air file, and make it the same as the PAI/FSPainter air file name, or change each sim= line to match the new TFS air file name.
c. Ensure the new TFS texture folder names match your texture= lines.
d. Rename the new TFS model folder to match the old PAI/FSPainter folder name, or change each model= line to match the new TFS model name.
e. If needed, ensure the radius of the new TFS dash8 is made the same as the old PAI/FSPainter model. (not sure how your AFCADS are made).

The most important thing to remember is that your title= in all your [fltsim.x] sections of the aircraft.cft can't change, if you're going to keep your current traffic.bgl.

A lot of work, but then you don't have to change your traffic.bgl file

Good luck.

RJ
