Flight one ATR-72 ?

Featured Replies

I am merrily downlaoding the huge file ATR72 from Flight one. Neat specialised download utility.15000 man hours claimed as well as many ground breaking features.Has anyone tried this aircraft, does it meet its claims and are there any downsides ie crawling framerates etc?I am not so interested in flushing toilets or other candy but more the aircraft systems, flightdynamics, useability and sense of realism. Thanks Peter

I am blown away by it. If you run it at max everything it will slow the framerates-at least on my 3.2 pIV. It has options to easily customize though for best performance-which is a fantastic option. The 15000 hours show for sure-and I haven't even flushed the toilet. :-)http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg

WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!

Geof I disnt see the other posting on this aircraft until it shot back onto the front page after I had posted.I edited my original posting to concentrate more on the realism and sense of being there factor as well as flight dynamics, systems.Do these areas shine or is it a glitter plane of gimmicks and multiple popups which take away from the useability?Peter

Let's just say it is such a complex package that I really can't answer your question. Not being familiar with some of the systems and having never flown an atr-I can't really say-but it looks like a very high possibly new high standard for FS in the limited time I have examined it.http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg

WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!

I've been involved in the beta test of the ATR for the last 6 months or so.Every attempt has been made to make it as close as possible to the real thing as is allowed by the MSFS engine, and that's quite close indeed.Performance is good, quite on a par with other quality commercial addons. The only times it's a bit slow is during initial loading, which might take a bit longer than you're used to.

Peter,In my opinion the flight dynamics are second to none. I base it not only on the "feel" but on reading some of the exchanges on the beta forum. Try for example landing with a 35 kts crosswind. Alexander Metzger did superb job in this area. I would be very interested what you say about it.BTW, I also own the original Eurowings (Aerosoft) package that included a few airports and 3 airplanes - ATR was one of them. And that ATR was NOT good. Alexander also did flight dynamics for Eurowings so I was very apprehensive what this ATR will be like. But it belongs to a different world... JW, I'm interested in your comment about slow loading, do you mean the sim is fully running, but some textures are still loading? Or do you mean the sim takes long time to start running?B

MichaelI have almost finished downloading and have a high regard for Flight one owning a lot of their products. What had me thinking was my return flight from near Nice to the UK today where I hand flew a Citation Bravo on a SID to FL 280 before engaging the autopilot. While doing this although I had a co-pilot I managed to operate the Primus 1000 and the aircraft as a single pilot. This should surely be a standard test for any flightsimulator aircraft.Should it be impossible to do in the flight sim aircraft because of multiple popups or an inability to control the aircraft without an autopilot then USEABILITY is not working and the design is bad. This in my opinion should be a hallmark test in marking a flight sim aircraft. USEABILITY!My second wish would be for a working copilot who could put a direct to in the FMC or change routings, frequencies etc.It happens real world so why not in our sims.A working co-pilot would be a major breakthrough and advancement and far more important than a flushing Loo :-)This is not directed at Flight one but is a general observation and thoughts I had today real world.Best Peter

I have it...it is NUTZ!It is the best addon to FS so far. Just unbelievable.Enjoy...I know I am!

Hi Peter,There are a lot of things we can / could add. It's just a matter of how many more labor hours and $ we might wish to add to the product.Ultimately, the more folks want, the more $ they need to be prepared to spend, and we like to draw the line at a point that provides good value, and allows for a price and feature set that makes it both agreeable to and affordable to the greatest number of users. Also, keep in mind that this product was requested of Flight One from ATR, and much of the eye candy it includes was required under the development contract. Okay, they didn't ask that the toilet flush, but they did want the lav installed!Otherwise, I hope you enjoy it. :-)Regards,http://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...R_FORUM_LOU.jpg Flight One ATR Development Team

Hi,It is a fantastic addon product and certainly compares to the best ones we know. The flight model is really fantastic and the cockpit is pretty much complete!! I only tried it quickly, so can't say much more and as it is a complex addon, it will take time to absorb all the systems, but for someone who is after hard-core sim, this is good!!It takes about 10-20s when it is loading the first time (depends on you machine), but then it's all up and running.Regards,Francois

I've got about an hour in it, my assessment is: SUPERB. Systems modelling is top notch, flight dynamics feel great, in sum - the new standard for turboprops in FS. I did see some performance reduction initially but by loading the standard textures you still have a top notch 2D panel with frame rates near 20 fps on a 2.6 GHZ P4 with a high end video card. I've been waiting a year for this since the first announcement, it is definitely worth the wait and the cost. If you like flying turboprops, I'd highly recommend this airplane!chris conklin
