FSX hangs after installing/uninstalling Megascenery Earth Florida

Featured Replies

Hi guys

I did something silly- I attempted to run FSX after installing only about half of the Megascenery Earth "Florida" files (I ran out of space on my HD; I know, silly). At any rate, FSX would not start- it just hangs on the splash screen. I even renamed FSX.cfg and nothing still. Also, it did say that it was updating my scenery files, both when after running the first time of the partial install and after removing them. And, as maybe a last ditch effort to save a tiny bit of face, I figured that maybe all the files would not be needed to fly the sim, thinking (assuming) that each file would only affect a certain portion of the state.

At any rate, FSX wont start now. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Eric Tomlin

Hi unless some  one  else  comes in with a better solution, any chance you made a back up before you installed  the  megascenery Earth or you could try doing  a system  restore option to a earlier  time

Or maybe running the FSX disks again and selecting the "repair" option??  And I would defrag after that much install/uninstall of those large files.

If you ran out of space on the hard drive, that could be the reason FSX wont start. Maybe not enough space for the pagefile or similar? Clear some extra room on your hard drive. Make sure you have at least 10-15% free and try FSX again.

And yes, you can run just the MSE sceneries that are installed, but you need to get your FSX running first.

Thanks everyone. I have about 17 GB free right now on that machine, but that is after clearing probably 14 GB off of the MSE FL. Still wont start of course, but it's good to know that the MSE should have ran without every file installed per PCAviator. I may have to just reinstall FSX then. Not a huge deal since I only have a handful of addons for it (my main sim is FS9).

Thanks again,

Are you getting any kind of error message at all?

When it hangs on the splash screen, try hitting Enter on the keyboard... then wait a little while. If still nothing, try Alt+Enter... If still nothing or no error showing, try a repair of FSX from Disk 1.

This is why i installed FSX on it's own 1TB hard drive :D

I also have Florida and defragged after every couple of sections.

A defrag after installing all sections would work equally as well, and only need to do it once :)

Or, just set up a scheduled defrag once a week if that is easier to keep everything in good running order.
