Wasp Jr sound set

Featured Replies

FYI:

I'm currently working on a P&W Wasp Jr. sound set. Recorded from the real thing.  Will have both single and twin sets in the package.

Release time frame is two weeks (or so). Sound sets are bit of a pain in the butt to do.

Having gone vintage the last couple weeks with two freeware planes (Spartan Executive 7, and Beech 18), my biggest peeve

are engine sounds... So I'm in the studio trying to emulate those thumpers properly. Stay tuned.

I've been giving serious consideration to trading the PAD Beech B99 for Milton's D-18S for FSX for running cargo from south Florida to the Bahamas.  On Facebook I read that Turks Air Cargo will soon be utilizing up to three Beech G-18's for similar operations.  They are also going to be using three Convair CV-340's.  It's nice to see old piston powered aircraft soldiering on in the 21st century.

My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

That is cool news.  I've fallen in love with the Beech 18's (except the tri-gears, which are ugly and wrong on so many levels!). There are plenty around waiting for rehab. The major

concern with the 18's are the wing spars. Most got parked after the FAA "AD'ed" the spars for cracks, fatigue, and rust... requiring a spar strap and x-ray inspections. They are

beauties though, and a complete rebuild with a new spar would be a great ride to have. With a hundred year supply of wasp jr parts and complete motors, they will be around

long after we are gone!

Update:

Boy... this is a tuff one!   I've been Totally (with a capital T) dissatisfied with current work in progress... until TODAY!  I had promised a twin and a single but will have to withdrawal that

to separate offerings. The Twin set is nearly done. The engine coding is nearly as long as a complete and typical sound.cfg

I'm debating if I should add prop wash, but in the interest of completing something, may add that as an upgrade later.

For the curious; Anything recorded from a working aircraft engine will naturally be "outside". This in turn has to be washed, hung to dry, and pressed to sound "inside", or in our

case, the perspective of a pilot and friends in a tube. FSX has it's own idea what that is, and you have to "work" it to get what it's really like in a plane. In this particular case,

the Radial Wasp Jr. is a THUMPING chest pounder, as are most Radials. Everyone is familiar with the sound of a Harley, and a group of them really shakes the ground. Harley engines

are radials after all, albeit, a two cylinder version. So that has been a challenge to copy as well.

All I can say is... if you have a butt kicker, or a really good sub... your gonna love this puppy!

Stay tuned.

Another Beech 18 lover here.  Can't wait for the sound set.  I'm a motorcycle guy and I've always thought that a big American radial sounded like 6 Harleys going down the road.

Sorry for the delay in the single version, but my house, car, and motorcycles are is self destruct mode. As soon as real life repairs are completed, I'll finish the single.
