After you've de-lidded you should go for a higher NB clock (you should be able to reach 4.4 and maybe even 4.5).

I'd recommend you to study the posts where Nick is guiding overclockers.

God luck :good:

Ah ... there ... you just had to go and burst my bubble didn't you <_< ... yea ... it didn't like 4.5 with OCCT ... back to 4.4 ... but that's not too bad I guess ... 4.4 is a good bit better than 3.5.

I just had a scare though ... the machine wasn't keeping time ... it'd keep time for a couple of hours and then just stop ... come to find out that the motherboard shipped with a bad CMOS battery.  Replacing that battery seemed to fix the problem ... won't know until tomorrow sometime.  If I have to pull that motherboard out because of a bad BIOS chipset ... I'm just going to go ahead and delid while everything is apart.

How do I tell what the North Bridge frequency is?

You wouldn't believe it but my Maximus 6 Extreme battery died after a week of use too, its ridiculous considering I paid over £300 for the bloody thing, I had the exact same thing happen to me a couple of days ago with the clock, lol, I spent about 2 hours trying to figure out what the hell was happening

Cheers, Andy.

I'm at 47x cores and 45x cache. Unable to go any highter on both of these with Auto voltages except AdaptiveOffset Vcore. Asus' gurus recommend keeping these 2-3000mhz away from each other for a minimal performance hit, but CPU freq is still the king.

Had a loose backplate on 100i as well, but the thumbscrews secured the coldplate firrmly, didn't bother to modify the board.

Can you copy and paste the link for the NickN overclocking thread?

Well, the results are in ... previously, when I had my Level-D 767-300 parked at Gate 3 at KATL (ImagineSim KATL airport installed) I was getting 12-13 fps (on a Haswell laptop from CyberPowerPC).  Now, after following NickN's Bible and the new post concerning NVidia GTX780 ... i'm banging up against the 30fps limit that I have set in FSX for that location.  I'm also running ftxGlobal and KFLL from FSDreamTeam.  The cool thing is that, compared to previous experiences, the modifications I had to make to the base FSX.CFG file were minimal.  The modifications to NVidia Inspector were automatic with NickN's .nip file.

I cannot test with the PMDG 737NGX yet as they have not yet gotten back with me concerning resetting my license (exceeded installs on previous computers I was using prior to getting my beast up and running).

Prior to this I was considering de-lidding this weekend, but, with these results, there simply is no need.  If the CPU craps out from running 4.4GHz ... my PTPP will replace it, at which time I'll de-lid.

This PC cost me considerably more than it would have if I knew then what I know now.  All of the shipping and restocking fees from CyberPowerPC, Newegg, Frozen CPU, Microcenter ... ate up hundreds of dollars.  Well, at least now I know that the parts I have installed are warrantied up to 7 years (with the Seasonic Platinum PSU) and are of the highest quality.  I hope this rig lasts for the next four years ... like my last build did.

Now it is time to make an image of my SSD and save it off.

Cheers to all ... and build those rigs yourself ... it is easy with all of the tutorials available on YouTube as well as the help provided here by some great forum participants.

PS:  There is so much air coming out of the top of the HAF-X 942 that I can feel it on my arm!  The rig is not entirely silent of course ... it makes a soft hum ... but for me that is OK ... just knowing that the case is a whirlwind of ventilation brings peace of mind.  To those of you using the Corsair Hydro Series H100i water cooling system ... clean that radiator every 6 months of dust and lint.  More frequently if necessary.

Thank you very much Charles. Perfect Timing. My ThermalRight Silver Arrow SB-E Extreme is arriving today. OOP's there is UPS at the Door now

Happy flying :Peace:

How do you like your Mickey Mouse socket system Ulf?

To be honest, Dario, it's impressive. Very impressive. Some years ago, when I ran FSX on i7 940, I thought the next build would be based on LGA 2011. I was wrong.

I'm sure it is indeed impressive, enjoy it!

Nice post!

I also just made a quick cheapo new Haswell build based on the 4700K (tried the I5 meh) on a cheap Asrock X3 board.

Decided not to delid and so far just used the auto OC in the BIOS for 4.4GHZ and still using my trusty DH-14 with three Noctua 15cm fans @ a ultra quiet 750 RPM with 16GB of Giel 1866 CL9 and a used 670GTX - LOVE IT.

Maybe a won the chip lottery, will have to play around with it and see how far she goes.

Anyhow nice rig.

Cheers!

Congrats PigsInSpace ... I wish I had taken the more frugal course personally.

My computer just tested at 9200 on the 3D Mark 11 tests.

My kid has been playing the free Tom Clancy's Spinter Cell Conviction and the game play is smooth at the highest settins ... with a $650 video card it better be.

It took me forever to figure out what was wrong is MSFX.  I turned all of the reality settings up to their highest setting and I was getting a CTOD after storing my flight plan and being asked whether or not I wanted it to move my plane to the departure location.  I still haven't completely nailed that one yet.

Looking forward to my maiden flight from KFLL to KTPA tomorrow morning before work.
