Will the 777X follow for remaining 343's in LX Longhaul-fleet?

Featured Replies

Has anyone more ideas about the development in SWISS Longhaul-fleet?

They already ordered 6 777W for 2016 - to retire the oldest A343. So 9 other would remain. It would be attractive for SWISS to decide buying the 777X or 787-10 - WHY?

The SWISS pilots are separated in an Airbus and one Avro RJ (+ 777 Team from 2016) - the fact is that the Airbus pilots have higher salaries. Would make sense for me, for you too?

Let's discuss...

Replacing all the A343 with the same type seems like it would make sense if they don't plan on shaking up their route structure. If the can fill the plane now I guess the 787-10 makes sense as a replacement as that has roughly the same number of seats. A T7(X?) is larger I think. The A350 might also be a viable replacement.

And if they aim for the replacement to start 2016, the 777X, which has an EIS at the end of the decade, may not be the best option. And surely not the cheapest.

The list price for the 777X is likely to approach $400 million, said one industry executive familiar with the negotiations. Early customers are likely to get steep discounts, but even with those, the price of the larger of two planned versions of the 777X, with 400 seats, could top $200 million by the time it is delivered around 2020, they added.

I'd go with John-Alan, the A350-900 or the 787-10 seem more likely when it comes to next gen birds replacing the current ones. But in regard to those two, the current 777 is a save bet on product maturity.

Let's see what comes out. As LX CEO told in an interview, the decision for the 343's will be made this year. As soon as the 77W arrives, I bet SWISS opens a new route to south-america GIG or EZE. Many Swiss PAX fly there via FRA on LH operated flights.
