Disney Planes for IPhone/WII and Ace Combat are games... Planes are reproduced in great detail in FS9/FSX, locations are faithfully rendered where one could go to the real world counterparts and not get lost, geography is reproduced with accurate mountains/landmarks. FS9/FSX being a game is like saying Google Earth is a game. I don't classify learning tools and accurate reference reproductions games... Now it can be used as a game which confuses people I guess. The reality of it not being a game may be one of the reasons it was discontinued because of it being a perceived threat. What we can turn these sims into is nothing short of remarkable if one could ever sit in the cockpit of a Level-D simulator for comparison (PMDG has done amazing work). The government looked at pushing Microsoft to discontinue FS when 9/11 happened (X-Plane was irrelevant as FS2000 had more detail and they thought terrorists trained with FS). FS2k2 almost didn't happen, that's why I laugh when people call it a 'game'. That being said it would have been a shame if all this stopped at FS2000. I would have hated that much more than having FSX be the somewhat last rendition of FS as we've come to enjoy it (I fully believe FS will return after the fall of Ballmer). August 16, 201312 yr I spend many hours a week with FSX, usually 60 or more (will be a lot more when I eventually retire). Am a bit FSX-fsxated! Wow !! I don't feel so bad now Why do I like FS = FS Avgas is $0.00 / gal ( so I just have to pay for equipment maintenance etc)
August 16, 201312 yr People can call it whatever they like but if anyone came to me and told me I'm wrong to call it a game my reply would be very short indeed. Hi, My best repsonse to that is, its what the individual wants it to be, some buy it as a game and happy flying to them, some regard it as seriouse simulation and also many happy airmiles to themalso, no one person realy has the right to object to another's idea of what they purchased or why ! if i buy the daily blag newspaper then burn it, well that was my choice. lol. just my opinion. Regards Guss Anthony Kemp. (Guss) -Please  I heard, " There are 10 types Of people in the world, Those who understand Binary and those who don't " I must be the 9th Type.....
August 17, 201312 yr In the final analysis this is all symantics anyway. But as a RW glider pilots (BTW the masters of hand flying) I use FSX for doing the aviation that I will never get to do in real life. As such I do allow my glider piloting skills to spill over into hand flying the NGX and other lesser FSX addons and that does work. I can land the any aircraft in FSX VFR and a virtual sleeping baby wouldn't feel a thing most of the time B) . I don't know what the best L/D of 737NG is but give me a big enough thermal and I will stick into a 45 degree angle of bank just on the stall and try to climb. On the other hand I don't know much about commercial airline system but I am taking the AOA NGX training. Ground School completed but just starting flight work and I hope to master the 737 but I will never allow how I fly in this so called simulator to influence my any part of my real world flying. My opinion is that is much healthier to view FSX as a game than a simulator and my reasoning is very simple. If you are an flight simmer with no real world piloting experience and you are an veteran ACE at FSX or X-Plane etc. best to put all that to bed if you ever decide to take real flying lessons. Your instructor will appreciate you doing so. I can tell you it is a lot easier to teach an ab-Initio pilot than it is to teach a flight simmer with no real flying experience who thinks they know it all! Much healthier to see it as a game! A very sophisticated game but it is a game! But hey what would I know :Straight Face:
