August 14, 201312 yr Hi All,I'm giving serious thought to completely updating my FS2004 scenery to achieve a more realistic/accurate geographical look. At the moment I use FS Global (Special Edition); FS Scene textures; Picnic grass textures; and some freeware water textures that I can't remember the names of. My problem - if you can call it a 'problem' - is that it's been years since I did any updating in this department. There's a bewildering range of new textures, meshes and other stuff out there that I've had no experience of, both payware and freeware. So, I'm seeking the community's advice: what combination of software do you use, or would you recommend, for the best compromise between realism and performance? Most of my 'flying' is done within the UK, continental Europe and New Zealand.Since we all know results depend on particular computer specs', here's mine:-OS: Windows 7, 32-bit, SP1; CPU: Intel Pentium D, dual-core, 3.00GHz; RAM: 2.00GB, single-channel DDR2; Graphics: 512MB, Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT.Thanks for taking the time to reply!

August 16, 201312 yr I actually prefer Silver Wings; cities look better (maybe because in the sixties there were high-rise buildings?). Best regards,Luis Hernández Main rig: self built, AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D (with SMT off and CO -50 mV), 2x16 GB DDR4-3200 RAM, Nvidia RTX 5060Ti 16GB, 256 GB M.2 SSD (OS+apps) + 2x1 TB SATA III SSD (sims) + 1 TB 7200 rpm HDD (storage), ID-Cooling SE-224-XTS air cooler, Viewsonic VX2458-MHD 1920x1080@120-144 Hz (G-sync compatible), Windows 11. Running P3D v5.4 (with v4.5 scenery objects as an additional library, just in case), FSX-SE, MSFS2020, MSFS2024 and even FS9! Lossless Scaling for all my sims. What a godsend...Mobile rig: ASUS Zenbook UM425QA (AMD Ryzen 7 5800H APU @3.2 GHz and boost disabled, 1 TB M.2 SSD, 16 GB RAM, Windows 11 Pro). Running FS9 there .VKB Gladiator NXT Premium Left + GNX THQ as primary controllers. Xbox Series X|S wireless controller as standby/mobile.

August 17, 201312 yr Could you please tell more about "Silver Wings"? It's a ground texture package named in the guide Virtpilot mentioned, just like Golden Wings. I tried first Golden Wings because of said guide, but I didn't like losing most autogen high-rise buildings (I understand in the 30's -Golden Wings' timeframe- there weren't a lot of skyscrapers). I switched to Silver Wings (which belongs to the 60's-70's) and never looked back. Don't forget to max out your autogen slider, or it would look sad and empty. Since a picture is word one thousand words, I'll give you a link that would save me from 2000 words http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?201142-new-2004-setup See post #2 and judge yourself. August 17, 201312 yr Actually I use only ground textures from that GW3 package. Now I have downloaded that Silver Wings and I could that try that autogen. Looks quite good. Tapani Österberg
