November 4, 200421 yr Hello,After reading all the positive feedbacks on various forums I decided to buy Switzerland Pro.Hundred of posts already spoke about the price and I won't.(I just regret that no map, and a very poor doc comes with the CDs).The scenery is fantastic, really, but there are numerous bugs that are not acceptable, IMO. It seems like they didn't finish the job properly as you can see in the screenshot. There are other bugs like blue triangles in water textures or bad mesh but they are less important.(The blurry textures on the pic are not hardware related. This is a pic I have made after refreshing the screen and with a very powerfull PC. They are simply ugly textures. I know that Swizerland Pro is a ONE season scenery but I choosed winter to underline the problem. In summer, the ugly textures and the junction with the default scenery are still here) Before writing to their support, I re-installed the CDs after a defrag of the HDs. Then I thought that probably one of my addon scenery was interfering and I created a new scenery.cfg file with the basic + SwitzPro only.No change, so I wrote a first email...and a second...and a third...NO ANSWER at all!So I decided to install FS on another partition to have a clean FS9.1 and reinstalled SwizPro....same thing.I don't know if others have the same problem (arround the Leman lake).Maybe not. It can be a CD problem. I don't knowBut what can I do if their support estimates that for 130 Euros you don't deserve a single answer??.I've been very polite with them and my purpose is really not to open here a polemical thread about an editor. But I think that maybe it will wake them up to providing the minimum of support they HAVE to provide to their customers.Regards,David - PC Hardware: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D // Asus ROG Crosshair X870E HERO // 2x32Gb Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5 6000MT/s CL30 // ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 4090 OC Edition // 4Tb Corsair NVMe M.2 MP600 // Corsair 1600W PSU Samsung Odyssey Arc 55" curved 165 Hz monitor. - Simulator Hardware: VIRPIL Constellation Alpha Prime + VIRPIL VPC Universal Control Panel - #3 + MOZA AY210 Force Feedback Yoke + WINWING URSA MINOR 32 Throttle & PAC Metal + WINWING SKYWALKER Metal Rudder Pedals + WINWING Airbus FCU & EFIS + WINWING Boeing 3N PAP + WINWING MCDU-32 + WINWING PFP-4 + WINWING PFP 3-N + WINWING PFP-7.
November 4, 200421 yr Hiya David :)Even with all its faults photo scenery is still an unbeatable VFR experience and for me personally worth every penny. I don't know why your requests for help have fallen on deaf ears and it does seem strange as the problems you are raising are well known and easily explained. You have chosen just about the best example of the problems of integrating photo scenery and the default FS scenery, Geneva being a narrow strip of photo scenery jutting out into the default scenery and it looks just the same on my 'puter. It does not look pretty and too be honest it is one part of Swiss Pro I tend to avoid. http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/96410.jpg1. The upper two circles on your screen shot.I have UK VFR and the join between it and the default scenery in Scotland looks just the same with square blocks of photo scenery meeting square blocks of the default scenery. I don't think there is any solution too this problem especially with a project as large as Swiss Pro or UK VFR which would require 1000 and 1000 of man hours too blend each bordering texture with the default FS textures and make them EVEN more expensive! 2. The lower circle on your screen shot. With Swiss Pro I think they have tried to negate the above effect buy "blurring" some of the textures that join up with the default scenery but the success of this method is rather debatable.Hope this helps!
November 4, 200421 yr Author Hello Janey,Thanks for your reply Should I say that I am happy not being the only one?...:-)I understand perfectly that the scenery has to end "somewhere" but why did they decide to stop it precisely in this narrow strip next to the bigger (is it?) city in Switzerland? And now that I know it's not a CD issue, I agree with you that the blurry textures are not the happiest choice.Best regards,David - PC Hardware: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D // Asus ROG Crosshair X870E HERO // 2x32Gb Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5 6000MT/s CL30 // ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 4090 OC Edition // 4Tb Corsair NVMe M.2 MP600 // Corsair 1600W PSU Samsung Odyssey Arc 55" curved 165 Hz monitor. - Simulator Hardware: VIRPIL Constellation Alpha Prime + VIRPIL VPC Universal Control Panel - #3 + MOZA AY210 Force Feedback Yoke + WINWING URSA MINOR 32 Throttle & PAC Metal + WINWING SKYWALKER Metal Rudder Pedals + WINWING Airbus FCU & EFIS + WINWING Boeing 3N PAP + WINWING MCDU-32 + WINWING PFP-4 + WINWING PFP 3-N + WINWING PFP-7.
November 4, 200421 yr Hi David,"I understand perfectly that the scenery has to end "somewhere" but why did they decide to stop it precisely in this narrow strip next to the bigger (is it?) city in Switzerland?"The high resolution ground images stopp precisely at the Swiss border. The source data has quite expensive (at least that
November 5, 200421 yr Author Hi Uwe,I just downloaded your screensaver, many thanks, it's really nice!I do appreciate the scenery but I am convinced that FlyLogic should have finished the work better, especially near Geneva and the Leman lake.regards,David - PC Hardware: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D // Asus ROG Crosshair X870E HERO // 2x32Gb Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5 6000MT/s CL30 // ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 4090 OC Edition // 4Tb Corsair NVMe M.2 MP600 // Corsair 1600W PSU Samsung Odyssey Arc 55" curved 165 Hz monitor. - Simulator Hardware: VIRPIL Constellation Alpha Prime + VIRPIL VPC Universal Control Panel - #3 + MOZA AY210 Force Feedback Yoke + WINWING URSA MINOR 32 Throttle & PAC Metal + WINWING SKYWALKER Metal Rudder Pedals + WINWING Airbus FCU & EFIS + WINWING Boeing 3N PAP + WINWING MCDU-32 + WINWING PFP-4 + WINWING PFP 3-N + WINWING PFP-7.
November 9, 200421 yr Hiya :)The join between the default scenery and the photo scenery will always be a problem and I doubt it can be fixed on large scale photo scenery projects like Swiss Pro. Even with this problem and a FEW small mesh bugs Switzerland as represented by Swiss Pro is still an unbeatable VFR experience especially if you love mountain flying! http://www.fsdinternational.net/janey/port...es/hbjmg_22.jpg
November 9, 200421 yr Re: transition bordersWith large-scale photo-sceneries those are virtually unavoidable. For smaller sceneries like France VFR, Georender etc. it's possible to manually edit the photographic textures to make the transition smooth. This will *only* work if you're using default landclass and textures however. With a large-scale scenery like Swiss Pro it would be a terrible waste of diskspace and source data to edit the entire border of the country. Also since it's summer-only it would still look weird during winter but instead of a clear border it would smoothly fade from green into white near the borders. Also compatibility with other sceneries would be dificult. For example, the upcoming Real Germany 3 which borders with Switzerland would look very strange at the borders. It is a scenery of Switzerland and as such they *did* finish it since it covers the entire country."There are other bugs like blue triangles in water textures or bad mesh but they are less important."Can you post screenshots of those "bugs"? I've never seen any of them and I've been flying over this scenery for 7 months now. I have noticed that the mesh will look a little jagged if it's not displayed at the full 19m resolution. Thus, you *need* the FS9.1 patch and you also need to edit your fs9.cfg file to change terrain_max_vertex_level to 21 for the best possible quality. There may be some disadvantages to this scenery but the overall VFR experience and realism make up for it:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/96876.jpg -

June 14, 200520 yr I guess this thread confirms my long held belief that photographic scenery is to be avoided except in situations such as for entire islands. So if someone comes up with photographic scenery for Scotland that merges seamlessly with the UK VFR stuff I would go for that, otherwise too expensive to put up with these inherent border issues no matter how marvelous the rest is.Bruceb Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened." Gandalf: "So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us."
June 14, 200520 yr Switzerland Pro does look awesome, and I own Megascenery Socal and I am going to buy the others.Maybe Megascenery should release patches to smoothly merge the scenery between normal and photographic. This goes for Swiss Pro too.I like the new Paris scenery coming out by Sim Flyer (right?).I just found http://www.fotoscenery.com/engelsk.htm which has Oslo and other photosceneries!Awesome! Because its free!I relize that FS9 it is far better with photo scenery and also the only problem (it is getting rectified now) is the loading of the scenery.....Daniel
June 14, 200520 yr Hello,Switzerland Pro is really a fantastic scenery. With a fine airport and some good autogen it is a place, where I spend most of my time. Take a look here: http://www.cr-software.com/de/service/VFRA...s_Swiss_02.htm#It's Lugano airport from cr-software and it's a freeware autogen made by me, special for that part of Switzerland around the airport and for low flying.Bernhard
