Can't get Accelerator to work

Featured Replies

I had to do a system recovery.Everything related to FSX was on my external drive( J ). The recovery went well. I plugged the external hard drive back in, still being the ( J ) drive. For some reason couldn't find the FSX exe. , so I renamed FSX to FSX-old then downloaded the two discs. The first two of three went well ( FSX Gold with Accelerator). Tried several times on the third disc to download Accelerator but failed. I went in to REX and was able to bring that up, but later a pop up; REX Essential-Unhand-led exception has occurred in your application. If you click continue , the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. The specified module could not be found. ( I clicked continue ) Microsoft Net Frame work - the same message came up.During one flight the EZDOC cameras were wrong, then I couldn't get the menu on the screen, then Microsoft came on and said that it was going to close the sim , and it did. One final example; Working with the FS Crew 2010 Program a message came up that read; FSX is not installed correctly , the registry is not pointing to the location of your FSX EXE. File. either install FSX or fix the FSX registry entry.One more message; The MSXML4 SP2 component is not installed . Please reinstall FS to restore or repair this missing component. Being anxious to fly , I fired FSX up and made several flights , but all ended early saying it was a demo.

  I think it's pretty obvious to me that FSX should be re-installed. If you have an easier solution then by all means please tell me. If a re-install is necessary , please let me know step by step , because I'm not very computer literate. thanks in advance.

I see the results from AppCrashView, but don't know how to show it here.

Well that sucks, sorry to be reading about your issue.

Here is a detailed uninstall/reinstall of FSX + Acceleration which is available at the PMDG site.

You could try the Flight1 FSX/FS9 Registry Repair Tool as you stated the registry path is not valid and hopefully that will fix it.

Let us know how things are progressing.  Good luck.

They say that Acceleration will not install if you have SP2 installed. Are you trying to download Acceleration or are you having difficulties trying to install Acceleration?  Robert has some good advice in regards to uninstalling/reinstalling FSX using the PMDG guide.  I know from another thread that you have tried the Registry Repair Tool and that did not work.  I would add the following to the PMDG Guide.  Once you have completely uninstalled FSX, just before reinstalling, run a registry cleaner like CCleaner.

Think I told you some time ago that using an external HDD to run FSX is not recommended (but you seemed to be having no problems at the time).  With an external HDD, FSX will be running through a USB connection which may not be very fast and sometimes USB connections stop working for some reason until you restart your computer.  I would install FSX on your main HDD and then place any addons/scenery on the external HDD.  Just a suggestion.

To post the results of your AppCrashView here you need to copy everything in the lower pane of the crash report then come back here and right click your post and select Paste.

Best regards,

Jim

I like the idea of putting it on my © drive , then addons on the (J). Right now when I put the first disc. in Within two minutes I get a pop up that reads; ERROR 1628...AT that early point it's not going to the external drive. I have spent all day ( no exaggeration ) speaking to various depts. in Microsoft and HP. I was even willing to pay HP , but he told me that he wouldn't do it because Windows 8 and FSX have compatibility issues. I have Windows 7 Home Premium on my shelf, but he was reluctant to do it because it's a downgrade.I've had problems before, but this takes the cake,lol.

firehawk, a guy from Microsoft tried that this mourning.  I did the fix it button> It said the computer was not compatable  with the fix.

Make sure you have Microsoft Visual C++ 2005, 2008, and 2010 32 bit version installed as FSX is a 32 bit program working in a 64 bit OS (check your add/remove programs).  Windows will probably install the 64 bit version(s) through Windows Update.  Also make sure you run Windows Update. Microsoft Visuals are used by the developers to make sure their application installs as they intended.

Make sure too that you have Microsoft.net installed, versions 1.1 thru the latest 4.5.  FSX will use the 32 bit versions.  You can check the versions installed by looking in Windows\Microsoft.net\Framework\then the versions.  There's also a folder for 64 bit versions but FSX will not be using those but maybe another program you have installed on your computer might.  In any case, it should install the proper version when you install any software, FSX and FSX addons included but every so often a glitch occurs.  Microsoft.net is used by FSX developers to make sure their product runs as intended including managing memory for the app.

Looks like that FixIt utility does not recognize Windows 8.  But all it's going to do is clean your registry so that Acceleration can be installed.

Best regards,

Jim

I have;

Microsoft Visual C++2005 Redistributable

        "           "     C++2008  X 86 9.0.30729.4148

        "           "     C++2010  X 86 Redistributable 10.0.40219

 I have the latest updates, all updates are 64 bit.   I tried downloading the net versions but couldn't get any that were 32 bit, you might have to guide me on that one.  I still can't get the app crash here. I select all at the bottom half, then click copy, then go here, right click to paste but paste isn't an option.

Your MSV 2008 is out-of-date.  Here is the latest - http://www.microsoft...s.aspx?id=26368.  The 64 bit version of C++ 2008 ends with 4848, not the x86.  You probably have the old version of MSV 2005 (version should end with 6195).  It appears you have the latest MSV 2010.

On the Microsoft.net website, look for the x86 version of Microsoft.net.  That's the 32 bit version.  The 64 bit version will do you no good with FSX and the 32 bit version is required to run FSX.  You need versions 1.1 thru the latest 4.5.  They are not backward compatible (in other words you can't just have the latest installed).  You can check if your versions are properly installed by using the tool at the following website - http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/10/13/8999004.aspx

Firehawk, I was on the phone with Microsoft again. They said my 64 bit updates will take care of the FSX even though that's 32bit. I will follow up on those two updates that you said  were not the latest.

They are wrong (again).

Jim

I've tried getting the 32 bit updates. I really feel that is the reason I can't download fsx. Just asked Microsoft if they can do it, they basically dumped me at this point. I don't know how to do this.

I really feel that is the reason I can't download fsx.

There's not too many Microsoft employees who want to assist someone in trouble with an old program like FSX.  Downloading FSX should not require any Microsoft.net program to be installed.  When FSX and Acceleration are installed, they will install the 32 bit version of Microsoft.net 1.1.  That's why I say you need versions 1.1 thru 4.5 of the 32 bit version installed but most programs will now install the proper version if the installer cannot see the proper version of Microsoft.net is installed.  So your main mission is to download Acceleration.  From my understanding above, you have downloaded it but when you run the program it will not install and give you a 1628 error.  Usually what this means is that the Acceleration installer is seeing that it was already installed when it looked in your system registry.  Did you see in that link I provided above (post #6) where there is instructions on how to manually fix your problem (since you cannot use the FixIt utility).  If that doesn't fix the problem then your only recourse is to reinstall Windows and then FSX again as it appears you have corrupted your system.

When you say reinstall windows , are you saying do a system recovery? Which I don't mind doing if it means it will fix the problem.
