Flash during pan

Featured Replies

I apologize if this has been asked and answer, but I didn't find anything during my search.

While in the spot view if I rapidly do a 360° pan I frequently get a flash or two during the pan of what may be scenery or sky textures.  Not sure what causes this, but would like to find a potential solution.  It's not a major big deal because I could just plan slower and alllow the GPU, memory or whatever catch up.

I recently upgraded my CPU and motherboard, but had the same issue with my old hardware.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Ernie

Does it flash white? As if the scenery/textures couldn't load for a split second?

If that's the case, I found a higher refresh rate seemed to help.

If its a scenery or spike it's normal. It should not happen again though. It loads the video buffer up from what I've read.

Pan all the way around your plane the first time you start FSX.

Does it flash just a few times panning ? Sometimes you will get texture spikes and once you pan around a few times, the spikes will stop. However, if they continue, means your GPU is overloaded.

Have you set up your FSX using the Avsim hardware guide ? Or maybe Kostas ?

Make sure you have followed the guide, in particular, setting up Nvidia Inspector.

If  you are using BufferPools( userpools=0,) try setting Pre Render in Inspector to "1" That can help elliminate spikes.

Thanks. The flash only occurs on the first, or possibly second fast pan, so I'm guessing that it's the video buffer thing.

I followed the Avsim guide fairly closely, but skipped a couple of the items, such as increasing LOD_RADIUS, etc.

Might have done some BufferPools stuff, but frankly those few paragraphs are a bit confusing.

The flashes are a bit annoying, but they only occur under the fast pan condition, so not a big deal.

Certainly no worse than those green squares I see sometimes when UT2 loads up the aircraft. :-)

Try setting pre render to 1 as I posted above

As mentioned above, panning around the aircraft in Spot view a few times in both directions, does help.   I just set my Water Effects to High 2.x, and don't get any flashing.   However, you may not care for the water effect.   The choice is yours.
