Loading Saved Flight w/ Panel State & Active FMC Route

Featured Replies

Hi,

Long-time flyer of the LDS 767 and have recently gotten into the PMDG 737NGX - love it so far!  I do have one annoying issue that I'm trying to resolve though.  Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Short story: I have been working up one of my favorite short-haul routes and am saving it at various stages of setup in FSX, so I can return to various stages as needed.  I am able to re-load a saved flight through the completion of originator flow (with ground power connected, some of the doors opened for service, fuel loaded and payload configured, etc.), and the flight deck looks great - everything is powered up correctly, etc.  However, once I enter/activate my route into the FMC and save the flight at that stage, it won't re-load correctly.  When I try to load that flight after saving it, FSX never goes through the PMDG initialization phase -- it just comes up cold & dark and completely unresponsive.  I tried holding down the MENU key on the CDU and it's completely unresponsive.

Everything seems stable, so I'm not sure if I'm not saving the flight correctly (just using the normal FSX save flight function), or if I'm missing something obvious.  Quick rundown on my system basics:

  • Intel i7 2.50 GHz (overclock to 3.2 GHz for simulations), 16GB RAM
  • FSX SP2 with PMDG 737NGX-800
  • Airport Enhancement Services (which works very nicely with the aircraft)
  • Vox ATC (also works nicely with the aircraft)
  • EZDok Camera (terrific tool)

Is there anything obvious that I might be missing here?

Did you read the intro manual?  There's a certain way the sim must be loaded (essentially, not using the NGX as your default aircraft for the sim initial load), that, if not followed, can cause weird issues.  Additionally, loading the aircraft on top of itself (both from loading the sim with the NGX as the default, or loading another livery of the same aircraft type) can cause weird issues.

Hi Kyle,

Thanks for your feedback.  Yes, I double-checked and FSX is configured to start with a different default aircraft (Ultralight), and I've tried loading the Ultralight into my departure airport, exiting the flight, then loading the saved NGX flight.  I also tried starting FSX from scratch (which shows the Ultralight in the preview screen), then loading the NGX flight directly.  When I save a flight through the originator flow, it will load successfully.  Anything past that and it seems to be having problems when I try to load it (dead cockpit, and CDU isn't responsive).

Hi Dan!

I have had this problem since I started with the NGX.  Here is what I have discovered so far (of course it may be equipment dependent):

If I first start with the default "tryke" and then select an NGX aircraft, position at my departure airport and proceed through preflight and startup and then takeoff  I can save it ONCE at any point and have no problem reloading everything including the FMC setup.  BUT, if I save it at my destination airport then select it again for my next flight then any saves I do inflight will not be able to be reloaded without some kind of corruption issue, usually related to the FMC not reloading correctly.

I had tried to work with support on this issue but they were not able to resolve it.   I have tried reinstalls and adjusting my settings but it seems that the SECOND save does not preserve the FMC setup correctly so it is unable to reload.  Very occasionally I get lucky and am able to recall the flight plan from within the FMC but most of the time even my attempt to do that results in a FREEZE and I have to shut it down.

Sorry I don't have a solution, only a commiseration.  Just to let you know you are not alone.  My work around is to always start with a fresh airplane and know that I have only ONE save that I can rely on that will reload.

Hi had this problem only when used FSBuild exported flightplan.

Have you try to fill fmc fp manually or using another route builder exporting tools? This may help.

Riccardo - Thanks for your feedback.  My flight plan is from FSBuild and I'm loading the route into the FMC using the FSBuild-exported flight plan, so perhaps that's the issue.  Ugh!  That will be frustrating for longer routes, but perhaps PFPX will solve the problem.  I will try loading manually and see if that works - stay tuned.

Any idea what the issue is with FSBuild-exported flight plan files?  I'd be happy to try and manually fix the file if there's a known change that can be made - maybe a simple format problem?

Craig - Thanks for your feedback.  When you create your flight, what's your default panel state ... cold & dark?  And can you save ONCE *before* takeoff, or does the one save have to happen *after* takeoff?

Dan Sloan

No Dan, I reported back in their forum, if well remember, but the problem was not solved, don't know why. I think it would not be so difficult to solve, but I can't do it. Let me know if you fix it.

I always, as you, save my flight, due to lack of time I can't complete an entire flight, so having this kind of problem is very annoing. But I think now you solved your issue, the problem, I think and you comfirm, is FSBuild. Let me know.

I have the same problem when resuming a saved flight and I do not use FSBuild.  I let FSX generate a flight plan, then manually recreate the flight plan in the PMDG FMC.  I've tried saving the flight using the FSX save from the menu, and PMDG save from in the FMC.  Either way, the cockpit is cold&dark on resume and no 17sec initialization like usually occures when PMDG starts up.

It works fine resuming one of the tuturial #2 saved flights.  But for the life of me I can't figure out how to resume my own saves.
