August 23, 201312 yr I'm sure the many add-on sceneries of the late Toni Agramont have been discussed somewhere in the forum! I've been flying in the Caribbean recently and his sceneries certainly add interest to VFR trips in that area. His Cuba scenery is different, however. Now he's 'corrected' many of the navaids - VORs, NDBs and ILS approach paths. He never seems to have used AFCAD, though, so these are all duplicated in the GPS map. My experience of duplicated VORs is that if you select his VOR when compiling a GPS flight plan, the autopilot ignores it and sails along on the same course, oblivious of the next waypoint. He also mentions in the Readme file that the mesh files should be installed in Addon Scenery\Scenery folder. Which files are these?? I flew over MUCB (Caibarien) yesterday and noticed that the runway is on a 'mesa' with the buildings and static planes falling over the edge. When I tried to position an aircraft on the runway, it appears in the middle of the town with the mesa in the distance! I landed at MUBR (Las Brujas) where there is no scenery, just the paved runway, yet Toni's scenery folder has a fairly large MUBR airport file. It's a shame that the great man died last December or else I would have dropped him a line. His Dominican Republic scenery is great, but one village, a few miles north of Sabana is in the middle of the sea! I suspect that Sabana is, in fact, misplaced. Does anyone know how to edit his scenery files and correct the lat/long data? His Jamaica scenery is brilliant, too, although the complex scenery at Port Antonio is a few miles west in St Margarets Bay right next to Ken Jones Airport - I think I can live with that, though! His static aircraft also add some colour, although they can give a headache if you want to fill the airports with AI traffic. I was intrigued by the many small white-walled gardens just outside most of the villages - they must be cemeteries? If anyone can help with any of these observations, I'd love to hear!! For info, I do have FS Global 2008 installed. Mike Moir Edinburgh
August 23, 201312 yr Author And there's more...... Tonight I was flying IFR to MUHA (Havana) from MUCA and FS9 crashed about 40nm to go. I suspect because of the conflict between the default ILS and the 'corrected' ILS? Looks as though I'll have to delete Mr Agramont's Cuba scenery unless someone has an explanation?? Mike
August 24, 201312 yr Check for duplicate AFCADs. Don't blame for my name, my parents were hippies and met in Woodstock
August 24, 201312 yr look for texture errors, too... that's been a big issue for me when using his sceneries.
August 24, 201312 yr Author Thanks, guys. There is no AFCAD clash - Toni Agramont apparently didn't use AFCAD. Which is a pity, because he's somehow managed to shift airports, change runway headings, ILS headings, VOR and NDB locations. And the problem I have is that if you select an airport from the usual menu, you are positioned according to the default AFCAD, and you may be on the grass near the threshold or much further away (in the case of Caibarien). Tonight I managed to fly MUCA to MUHA without CTD. I discovered that trying to position an aircraft at MUML (Mariel) about 10nm west of Havana, caused at CTD, so I deleted the two MUML.bgls. I note from other forums that Cuba has been an issue. A simmer experienced CTD in eastern Cuba, and the culprit was the Guires.bgl which I have also deleted. I will persist with Cuba, deleting .bgls where they seem to cause display problems. I really don't want to detract from the enormous amount of effort Toni Agramont put into his sceneries, but Cuba probably wasn't his best! The conflict over GPS flight plans is easy to resolve: the default navaids are in capitals, Toni's versions are in lower case! Mike
August 24, 201312 yr I actually quite liked Tony Agramont sceneries and downloaded and installed most of them. However I eventually ended up uninstalling almost all of them because of one issue or another associated with them, aprticularly areas of conflict with other payware or freeware. I think Tony was very well intentioned but, in trying to cover entire countries in most cases, he had just taken on too much and sadly they didn't have the finishing touches required to get them running smoothly with all the other available addons. August 25, 201312 yr Author Thanks for your comments, guys. I see from the map of Cuba that 'guires' is probably a misprint for Guines which is 30nm SE from Havana and that would have caused a CTD. I should have mentioned, too, that I had a problem with Toni's Caribbean North scenery. I had a CTD approaching TISX (St Croix), but interestingly, after I had deleted the version downloaded from Avsim and installed the corresponding Flightsim file, there was no problem. Weird? Mike
