How does one load the aircraft in cold and dark mode?

I don't think it's an actual "load" option (in the meaning of the plane starting cold&dark when being called from the menu) but an extra popup window (shift 4 or 5) to set it to a defined state, namely cold&dark.

So perhaps check the available popup windows with the mentioned shift command and look for the cold&dark button. This should do the trick and you will receive a "dead" plane.
