Is it worth getting a 1440p monitor for FSX?

Featured Replies

I'll tell you what, I'm running a 1920x1200p (older TFT screen)

I once tried a triple screen setup (iiyama 24";, 1920x1080p). The result was bad. The missing 120 vertical pixels made a HUGE difference in VC (I mainly fly tubeliners).

I soon reverted to my 1200p.

So, in my opinion, 1440p is a huge improvement for you. Will make a big difference from 1080. Without any doubt. Worth it. No hesitation !

I've been debating whether to go for a 30" 1600 monitor from my 24" 1080 or a 32" at 1440. The new batchkes of the Dell Ultrasharps of the 32" inch versions from Samsung, Acer and Asus are cheaper than the 30" versions from the likes of the 30" Dell Ultrasharps with their top-notch IPS panels. I've only ever used TN panels so even the MVA panels that the cheaper 32" inch panels will be a big improvement I'm hoping. I'm just hesitant because quite a view users have reported problems with colour banding on the Samsung and BenQ models which both use the same panels.

Does anyone here own one of these models (either a 30" 1600 or a 32" 1440) and would owners of IPS panels of any size feel like they are really worth the extra dough? The poor viewing angles of TN monitors has never bothered me as I'm always sat right in front of it, but I'm wondering if the richer, more vibrant colours and inky blacks of the IPS monitors make you an instant convert?

Thanks.

What is hdr and how do I enable it?Thanks,Ron

It's High Dynamic Range and in my experienced you always enabled it in the game's graphic options when they supported it. Maybe there's a way of manually editing the fsx.cfg to enable it, but I've never heard of any such tweak. Maybe some paid add-on can reproduce the effect.

If you have a GPU(s) and eyesight that can handle it than go for it!

David, considering switching my multi monitor setup for a single on with higher resolution, and coming back to this to ask.. Which monitor was this you're using? and also, what level of zoom were you using in that pick to get that view?

Thanks!!

Sorry to jump in here. I'm just wondering why you have disabled wide view. i have just purchased a 3440x1440 curved Samsung. Things have a fish eye look in VC, any idea what settings I should be using?

Thanks,

Thanks,

Using Prepar3D, I find it makes it hard to see the gauges. In fsx I had it on.

Did you ever solve the edge of screen fish eye?

Hey, I just change the zoom levels depending on the plane I'm flying, I find I need to usually zoom out before I'm happy. It's down to the user really, just experiment and see what works best for you. This is in FSX, just to confirm.

Cheers
