August 30, 201312 yr I have FSX running in fullscreen mode on three screens using the 2x DVI and the 1 HTMI using nvidia surround to give a resolution of 6072 x 1080. Now I would like to add a forth monitor using the spare DisplayPort socket on my video card to display things such as GPS or FMC. I've looked at USB powered touch screens such as Mimo and Lilliput and ruled them out and if I use an adaptor from displayport to HDMI it gives me a much larger and cheaper choice for the 4th monitor Can this be done with FSX running in full screen mode?
August 30, 201312 yr No, you have to run in windowed mode, if you try full screen mode then the 4th non FS screen will just stay black/blank and be unusable. Cheers, Andy.
September 4, 201312 yr Yes it can. Set your screens up how you want them in windowed mode and save the flight. Go to full screen mode. Start up using the same flight. Works for me. Mick
September 8, 201312 yr When I set up my 3-monitor Surround mode using the 2-DVI and 1-HDMI ports of my Asus GTX 770, my 4th monitor ("accessory" monitor) using the DisplayPort is disabled by NVidia "Configure Surround, PhysX" setup. All monitors work fine in NON-surround mode. I want to use the 4th monitor for maps, Reality XP, etc. Ideally, I would fly FSX in VC windowed mode with the ability to undock certain instrument or other windows and move them to the accessory monitor plus run separate related programs (e.g. FS Commander) in the 4th display. So far, I'm stumped on how to do it. Larry

If the GPS or FMC you're thinking of are just panels within FSX, rather than external software, you can use the 4th port on your video card as an auxiliary display just fine. When entering fullscreen your main screens will go into surround mode and the 4th monitor will go blank/black, and you can then drag stuff like panels to it. With earlier Nvidia cards you could not use surround mode while using the 4th port as an auxiliary display at the same time but on more recent cards you can do that just fine. There is a simple chart at Nvidia's site that lists the capabilities of their different video cards. If your motherboard and CPU supports it, you can even use the CPU's build-in GPU to get yet another auxiliary display in the same way. This feature is usually disabled by default in the UEFI settings though.
September 9, 201312 yr I became "un-stumped" regarding the 4th monitor being disabled after setting up the 3-monitor NVidia Surround". I right-clicked on an empty area of my desktop, then chose "Screen Resolution". I then selected the 4th monitor and changed the setting under "Multiple Monitors" from 'Disabled' (which NVidia had set this monitor to when going to Surround mode) to 'Extend Desktop for this Display'. I'm now able to run FSX in either Windowed mode or Full Screen and run auxiliary programs, maps, etc. on the 4th screen. Solution could not have been much easier. Larry
September 13, 201312 yr Author Many thanks Pahlmia after waiting for a DisplayPort to VGA lead I tested an old monitor using the displayport on my video card plugged in to the VGA and it works. The three monitors are in full screen surround the fourth to the left is in windowed mode and you can see I have the ATC & GPS running on it ...... one happy bunny here:) Here is a link to the pic of it running http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7406/9735112915_d7c8b842e4_o.jpg A new 10" inch monitor is on order

September 21, 201312 yr Yup sure is, if it was windowed the background wouldn't be black it would show the desktop background image, plus you would see other running program's besides FS gauges. Cheers, Andy.
