September 7, 201312 yr I assume this is not a hardware related question, because I am almost certain that my hardware is sufficient. I have been playing a lot of DCS lately, and since the release of the PMDG 777, I have decided to install FSX again. I purchased PMDG 777 and also the VRS F/A-18E including the TacPack. Only problem is that since i started playing, even after using a tweak guide that Froogle referred to, I am getting about 11 FPS at low altitudes. Settings are not maxed out. Only scenery add-on is REX. I am using TrackIR, EZDok camera, 3D lights REDUX and Accufeel. Specs: i7-3770K w/ CM 412S ASUS Nvidia GTX TITAN 6GB Corsair XMS3 8GB RAM 1600MHz Gigabyte Z77X-D3H I've got FSX instsalled on my D drive, which is a 1TB harddrive. I don't think it's my specs. I am using a single 60Hz monitor at 1920x1080. FSX settings are set to 1920x1080x32. I used Nvidia Inspector and a tweak guide, everything pretty much that Froogle referred to in his performance video. What is the problem with my FSX? I am clueless as to what to do. Some additional info, I did a clean install of FSX just when I purchased the PMDG 777 and it worked fine, even on 3 screen (1920x1080 each). A bit on the low side, going to 25 fps minimum, but still quite smooth for high settings including add-ons and a non overclocked CPU. I had to reinstall FSX because it was acting weird, and then I bought VRS and did all the tweaks and stuff. Now I'm getting 11FPS even when disabling all monitors except for my middle one. Any help will be greatly appreciated!
September 7, 201312 yr You have a very powerful system and I don't know why you think you need to employ tweaks. I have a system that's close to yours and I only use two tweaks and that's setting the LOD_Radius to 6.5 and Texture_Max_Load to 2048 (for HD). No Bufferpools, no disable this or disable that. Just changed a couple of settings. I have Photoscenery so the rest of my settings are pretty much set to the FSX default. I don't need Autogen so that's off. I also have DX10 Preview turned on. Have you taken a look at NickN's "Bible"? - http://www.simforums.com/forums/drivers-nv-inspector-fsxcfg-complete-guide_topic36586.html. He has the same system as mine and doesn't believe in tweaks either. He did recommend a Bufferpool tweak which I tried and didn't like it as it appeared to be affecting performance or doing nothing. Now employing more than one monitor for fsx is going to require more resources but if you keep your settings down, except the LOD and TML, you should be okay. That's a guess on my part as I only have a 30" monitor. In the video card forum located in the Hardware Forum section here on AVSIM, there's a post about multiple monitors pinned at the top of the forum. You might find additional suggestions there. September 8, 201312 yr Author I have had DX10 on some time ago, but it caused way too many problems with add-ons. Many of my add-ons are incompatible with DX10.
September 8, 201312 yr Any help will be greatly appreciated! Sounds like you already have evidence your machine was fine--just sounds like it's been garbled up w/ various tweaks, additions, monitor changes, etc. My recommendation for you is to wipe all FSX installations completely clean and insure all of your system drivers are current, then reinstall everything taking care to keep tweaks to a minimum as Jim mentions. His setup is much different I think than most users in that he doesn't use autogen and keeps other settings at FSX default. I have an SB-E w/ Titan system and use only Bufferpools=0 and the HiMemFix or whatever it's called and texture max load 2048 tweaks. I run autogen between Dense and Max depending on plane and scenery, and all other setttings are pretty much maxed including cloud density & distance, all terrain sliders full right, traffic dialed back to 20% or so except road traffic at 12. I have excellent performance by all accounts however use only one 1920x1200 screen and do overclock to 4.4Ghz. September 8, 201312 yr I have an SB-E w/ Titan system and use only Bufferpools=0 and the HiMemFix or whatever it's called and texture max load 2048 tweaks. Good info and advice. The highmemfix=1 is not really a tweak but an actual fix to FSX that missed SP2/Acceleration. Your system can also handle a higher LOD_Radius setting too and I would at least try 6.5. I had mine at 7.5 but once a week or maybe every two weeks I would see a freeze or a crash. It may or may not have been caused by that setting. The 6.5 setting has worked very well for me so far. I'm surprised you are getting okay performance with the BP=0 setting. Any Bufferpool setting has not worked for me as I get a lot of stuttering with it. I'm through tweaking though until another flight sim program arrives. I'm very happy with the performance of my system. Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! September 9, 201312 yr Have a look at this. z77 test My computer with an i7 3770K and a GTX680 was struggling terribly with FSX. But it would play XPX decently and max out DCS. I couldn't understand why until I found that review. I basically followed its tuning line by line and gained about 25fps in FSX. Quite remarkable what a few tweaks in the bios can do. Is it done yet? When will it be released? Will it be freeware or payware? How much will it cost? Any updates on the progress? Will it work for Xbox? Can I be a beta tester? How's the performance in VR?
