I remember a long long time ago I read a message on this forum regarding black contrails and a solution to correct same.

 

Is there someone around to pin point me in the right direction in finding it.

Do you have HIGHMEMFIX=1 in your FSX.cfg?

I was having this problem and used the gauge recovery and it worked perfectly!
