September 17, 201312 yr Another Boeing! Can't have enough of 'em... Like the TDS 787 the nose is not quite right - this one is *just* not round enough. But once I got it working, not enough to distract from a very nice-looking model. First thing was to install a very nice CFM56 sound package I have, from Steven Persson. Then: Looking good... I am hoping for a nice discreet BBJ livery Not too wavy, but not too 1950's either. With gold accents in it. Glad someone is listening Beautiful... just beautiful. One small thing ...... I've installed the "Aviation Partners Boeing 737-700 scimitar winglet (N162WC)" textures ( Filename:tds737_avp.zip ) but nothing shows in the sim . Pete I installed this with no problem as is (file is dated 15th September 2013, 19:47:50). In fact it's the first version I have installed that worked out of the box, without CTD when switching to VC view. Go figure... VC view is of course vital for those replays from passenger view. Ain't those wingtips something?? And the wing animation is great. I then took a chance and installed my all-time favourite 2D panel, from Arjan Scheffel: and it seemed to work - at least it didn't crash the plane or the sim! I think there may be an xml issue, as the "automatically generated" settings don't always activate the model, although they appear on screen (e.g. airspeed of 320kt didn't cause throttle opening from 250kt until manually increased) And it actually stalled at M=0.7/27,000ft. Still, at least it's airborne, and in my sim, so now's the time to tinker and play. Perhaps a little flap contrail? Mmm Thanks to TDS for producing this for FS9.
September 17, 201312 yr This could be the plane which finally brings me to fly modern airlines. But how comes that I don't see a VC? The VCockpit entries in the panel.cfg file refer to bitmap files with "$" at the beginning, which I find nowhere... Thanks in advance for help with the VC... and... of course... Thanks TDS for the plane! Harald EDIT: Just in case this is important, I tested the plane with the SAS livery from the library and Basepack V2.0. EDIT 2: I think I have realized that the VC section contains actually no gauges but xml gauges to activate certain functions of the model. But how did you make the VC WingZ? Harald Geyer Gründer der Messerschmitt Freunde Dresden v. V.
September 17, 201312 yr Author No VC... Arjan's panel comes with multiple 2D views, including one in the cabin playing your favourite movie! If there is indeed an xml issue in the panel merge, I'll use another panel but keep the views, I think.
September 17, 201312 yr Your last picture is a 2D view? I'm impressed! By the way, I'm experimenting with PS panels but not today - got a new yoke today and have to calibrate it. Harald Geyer Gründer der Messerschmitt Freunde Dresden v. V.
September 18, 201312 yr WingZ Where did you get that panel? I search avsim and flightsim but couldn't find it. And in that comparison shot who is TRD? I never heard of that group before.
September 18, 201312 yr Author Joseph the first picture is a photo ( TRD = "The Real Deal: B) ) The Scheffel Boeing is I think based on the FFX model, and available here: http://www.airscheffel.com/ It has this truly amazing panel with checklists that do the actual switching of all the bits. (Either by prompt, or automatically, as you desire) +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I am experimenting with a little flap contrail... These numbers seem to work: X Offset=10.90, 10.90 Y Offset=0.00, 0.00 smoke.0 = 0.000, -3.0, 0.000000, TDS787_flap but I can only trigger the effect if the "I" key is used prior. Harald perhaps you could transfer your earlier experience here?
September 18, 201312 yr Hi, I installed a yoke (finally!) yesterday and didn't continue my work on the 737. From what I remember with the SSJ-100 and the DF 727: Did you edit your panel.cfg with the necessary "gauges" and did you copy the "Vortices" gauge folder with the .xml file into the panel folder? The fact that your "I" switch still works makes me believe that something with the "trigger xml gauge" is wrong. All I remember from my trials with the SSJ-100 is that as soon as the trigger gauge is loaded via the panel, the "I" is immediately overridden by the trigger gauge if hit. In the 727 I took the alternative way by activating the flap vortices as lights, thanks to Eds (edetroit) help; because in DF's 727 the smoke system is triggered by fuel consumption...! Let me come from my work in the evening (in Germany the day and my work has just begun) and I will try the flap vortices myself - thanks by the way for delivering the offset values for the .fx file. I will report back. The "as738.zip" is available in the avsim library, too. But I can't find all the 2D views, at least in the files for manual install. Do I have to run the automatic installer first? Harald Harald Geyer Gründer der Messerschmitt Freunde Dresden v. V.
September 18, 201312 yr Author Yes I thought I did all the necessary transplants: In the Tds737ADVCONTROL subfolder added and renamed Ed's gauge to Tds737vortex.xml In the [Window00] section of panel.cfg added gauge48=Tds737ADVCONTROL!Tds737vortex, 140,80,140,80 Copied the effect file to the Effects main folder, renamed to TDS737_flap.fx Changed offsets in the fx file: X Offset=10.90, 10.90 Y Offset=0.00, 0.00 In the [smokesystem] section of aircraft.cfg added smoke.0 = 0.000, -3.0, 0.000000, TDS737_flap After pressing the "I" key, the effect duly starts when flaps are lowered! It's the end of my day in this time zone, maybe after a bit of sleep things will become clear... perhaps lights will be the way. As to the 2D views, AVSIM may not have the latest updates, have a look at the Scheffel site.
September 18, 201312 yr In the Tds737ADVCONTROL subfolder added and renamed Ed's gauge to Tds737vortex.xml In the [Window00] section of panel.cfg added gauge48=Tds737ADVCONTROL!Tdsvortex, 140,80,140,80 Shouldn't it be "...!Tds737vortex"? But I rather assume this is a typo here in the thread and the xml somehow works, else the vortices propably wouldn't appear only with flaps down... Have to research in the evening. I have the zipfile now from Scheffels site; again, no 2D panels. Or do I search for them in the wrong folder? Seems that I need to sleep more than you. Wish you a good night; I just had lunch... Harald EDIT: I found the side views in the AS panel - they are included as gauges in a huge .cab file. Clever. Harald Geyer Gründer der Messerschmitt Freunde Dresden v. V.
September 18, 201312 yr Author Shouldn't it be "...!Tds737vortex"?Yes - typo here only, and I corrected my post above.Glad you found the panel views. That panel is a work of utter genius...,
September 18, 201312 yr New Zooland Interoceanic? By the way, the Arjan Scheffel 738 seems to be a piece of art altogether. How is it in comparison to TDS' new plane? Of course, a 737-800 reminds me to Air Berlin and Ryanair, so I like the 737-700 much more. Harald Geyer Gründer der Messerschmitt Freunde Dresden v. V.
September 18, 201312 yr WingZ, I have now inserted flap vortices. The only difference to your procedure is that I have the flap...xml gauge inside a dedicated folder instead of within Tds737ADVCONTROL. The gauge seems to switch the smoke system properly ("I" switch is overridden if switched when speed is too high), but after decreasing the speed until the vortices are triggered they seem to switch on and off again and again so that I have only short vortices coming every second or so. I have no explanation. Perhaps there are compatibility problems with the lot of xml gauges of the TDS plane and the AS panel. Investigations continue. Harald Harald Geyer Gründer der Messerschmitt Freunde Dresden v. V.
September 18, 201312 yr Author Perhaps Ed might get involved again, we are about to tread on his copyright! By the way, the Arjan Scheffel 738 seems to be a piece of art altogether. How is it in comparison to TDS' new plane? As I mentioned it uses the old FFX model, which goes back a very long way. The FDE is spot-on. How do I know? Well, I did a Trans-Tasman flight to YSSY with it, using ASE real world weather. I had FlightRadar running on the real flight, in real time, on an iPad next to the keyboard. By the numbers! the sim allowed me to follow the flight exactly, including descent and landing. But the TDS visual model is a good demonstration of how far modelling has progressed! I may work toward fusing it with the Scheffel innards... what a great freeware package that would make. Jon is right - FS9 is that kind of environment, we are indeed fortunate.
September 20, 201312 yr Author Think I've cured the low-speed vortex "spike" I was sometimes seeing at lower speed, for both this and the 787. I"ll test a bit more, tidy up the effect a bit... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXBv_GtDbKU
September 22, 201312 yr Author To wrap up.. there's a revised lightmap for the repaint above, very nice I reckon. With all the updates in place, what's not to like? And I think I prefer the nav lights on this model, to the 787! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dxKG8SuK2k&feature=youtu.be There are many 2D panels available, I will probably end up installing an ease-of-use version and make this plane a daily flyer! Thanks again, TDS
