Old Logbook v New Logbook

Featured Replies

Having just recently re-installed everything clean from Win7 Pro 64 OS to FSX on a SSD-based system, the new Logbook now only shows a record of the flights made since then. As I still have the hard rive where the previous FSX installation is still stored, is there a trick or way to extract that Logbook's records/rewards as I had well over 1000 hours on day flights and over 500 hours on night flights to add to the current FSX's Logbook record?

I think (not sure) logbookeditor (google it 'cos I don't know how to link on an I-thingie) can merge logbooks.

Hi Mike. Thanks for that, but I already have that Logbook Editor. Unfortunately, when I copied it from the previous desktop to the new SSD-based desktop without making a back-up, it immediately imported the latest FSX logbook records and wiped clean the previous FSX logbook. I was hoping that I might have been able to retrieve the logbook data, i.e. flight records, rewards, etc from the still-retained FSX directory on the hard drive.

Hi Rick,

Just go to the old Windows folder and open up My Documents and Flight Simulator X Files and copy the logbook.bin over to your new installation.

Best regards,

Hi Jim

Thanks for that. Now in my old Windows set-up, in User/My Documents/Flight Simulator  X Files/ there is a folder with Logbook.BIN that is 19Kb in folder size as opposed to the current Logbook.BIN of 17Kb. Would that most likely be the Logbook that has all those previous flights and rewards? I'll make a back-up of my current Logbook Editor just to be on the safe side.

Hi Jim

Okay, got it sorted. Now to have fun adding the flights record since the new install.

Hope you have kept your rewards as well. They were stored in a file called grantedrewards.bin in "Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX\"

I make backups of these files regularly.

I was thinking of that too but had no idea how to recover it, Many thanks for your tip. I cannot seem to merge the old Logbook.BIN with the newer Logbook.BIN. When I try to open it with that Logbook Editor, it shows everything in gobbledygook, i.e

Whenever I reinstall FSX, I move the My Documents/Flight Simulator Files over to the new installation (the whole folder) as it contains many flightplans I had developed over the years.

Hi Jim

Yes, I did that. I saved all my flightplans stored in the previous My Documents/Flight Simulator X folder which I can now re-use in Aivlasoft's EFB, FSC,etc. It's the record of hours clocked up that I'm trying to merge with the new Logbook.BIN.
