October 3, 201312 yr If PMDG had published the intro doc I would have wanted the T7 even more. ... but I wouldn't have bought FSX! :LMAO: There you have it! VAS-wise it's more difficult "to land" than "to take off" (VAS used by scenery isn't completely freed when the scenery has been left). Even though on landing your VAS was "pre-filled" with "older" scenery, FlyTampa's LOWW was considerably easier on your VAS than the other developer's Helsinki. I think it would've been a little bit lower if my LOD was still 4.5, but since I've adjusted my scenery settings, I have never had an OOM with the T7 and I had a ton with with the NGX and all the scenery activated. It takes me about 2 mins to disable scenery I'm not using so I can really enjoy FSX
October 3, 201312 yr Commercial Member FSDT released Version 1.1 of CYVR mainly to reduce VAS usage and reduce OOM errors. See this link http://www.fsdreamteam.com/forum/index.php?topic=7837.0. Careful when chopping sentences there... The full sentence refers to manuals offering ways to reduce VAS usage. I was addressing his point that, had a manual that was posted publicly offered ways to reduce VAS usage, he wouldn't have bought it. My point was that nobody really does this, so such a warning wouldn't be a deterrent to buy the product, even if the manuals were publicly available. Most developers worth the time attempt to reduce VAS usage. On platforms like mobile devices, memory consciousness is a must. Kyle Rodgers
October 3, 201312 yr On my system, I found out that the clouds where causing my OOM issues and FSX to crash. Before yesterday afternoon, I was only able to make one flight (takeoff and landing) before fsx would crash. That means only one flight session before I have to restart fsx. I'm not sure where to monitor VAS usage but through task manager, I notice that when fsx reaches higher thqan 2.3 gig bytes it would soon crash. The ngx and T7 would take a good chunk of that memory, because when I load a simple aircraft right after, fsx's memory usage drops a lot. So I real this post yesterday and reverted back to my default clouds ( was using HDEv2 cloud set) and a 512x512 cumulus texture. I did a flight from EDDM to LIRF to EDDM in the ngx and then onwards to VHHH in the T7 (all Lufthansa  ) all in one session. Thats right, I had fsx still running for over 18 hours. When I landed in Hong Kong, fsx was using about 2.275 gigs wand when I started to Hong Kong it was 2.07 gigs. Fsx did not crash on me in Hong Kong, I did a good half hour plane spotting and chased an oil tanker with a Jet Ranger from HKG until I got bored and shut down the sim. I thought this was an Interesting find to share. I use Opus so my clouds are lush are real btw. I should point out the addons I have installed and using in fsx: -Most of my airports are ADEX afcads from various sources ( special thanks to Ray Smith) -Blue Print studios TBPB, TJSJ, some payware MMUN, and a CYYZ from fs9 that was AES compatable -GSX -Fs Captain -Of course PMDG Beechcraft, Jetstream, NGX, T7, 747 -LVL D 767 and Qualitywings 757 -Opusfsx -Proatc/x -UTX Canada, USA, Europe, Alaska, Caribbean -Scenery Tech land classes for everywhere else -FSGlobal Americas Mesh -Default GA aircraft, my custom generated Ga aircraft -Manually installed airlines (thanks Alpha India, United Traffic Team, and others) -WOAI and Ultimate traffic 2 to fill in the gaps (BTW I have air traffic set to max, Road traffic to 25%, Ships and ferries to max) - I am locked at 33 fps and average 13fps minimum in medium urban centers ( still pretty smooth) and 8fps minimum in super urban areas ie. London, New York, Miami, LAX. -Ai smooth and ai separation together ( great tag team, I have is set up great to handle poorly traffic designed airports like LHR and JFK, EWR, LGA) I think that about covers it. Cheers! B)
October 3, 201312 yr Author Kyle thank you for your advice about reading my original post which I have just done. You may be interested in reading the first paragraph of my summary which I have quoted below So in summary I have reduced all my settings considerably and therefore don't wish to reduce them further and if I had known before purchase that I would have to do that, then I doubt whether I would have bought the T7. As detailed advice on OOM and VAS is given in the Introduction I assume that PMDG were aware before RTM that this area would be a cause for concern. In my opinion this information should have been made available before purchase. In that rant(your words) you will notice that I state there that the OOM and VAS information should have been made available before purchase. You also state that the manuals I mention don't specifically refer to VAS. I agree but if you read page 16 titled "Tweaking tool" They note that the high resolution textures can put a strain on some systems and thier tool offers 13 options to help overcome this. Thanks all above for your advice. As I said I have done all that and one of my points is the fact that you have to buy the T7 before you find out about the compromises you have to make. No doubt many people will be happy to do that and for the most part I am too. The point about removing the external model is interesting. As my interest is in flying on my computer and not messing about with the programming etc I would appreciate it if PMDG would be more proactive and make it easier to make such changes. This is the start of my second post on this topic which seems to be popular. I don't think that this or for that matter any of my posts can be called a rant. You of course are perfectly entitled to disagree with me. I note that you only entered this topic after my post no31 which ends as follows Olli you also mention on the Aerosoft forum and I quote:"PMDG are planning to implement a 'performance tool' which switches between different texture sizes"If that is the case then I am pleased that PMDG are doing their bit to make it easier for flight simmers to make VAS usage compromises that best suit them and I look forward to the release of the "performance tool" From the tone of your posts I feel that not only do you disagree with me but you also want to lecture me on the error of my ways. I am therefore grateful that you have taken the effort to explain to me that even if I had the information re VAS usage before purchase I would have still have bought the T7 In fact in my first post I said then I doubt whether I would have bought the T7. The reason I framed the sentence in that way was because I accept that I can't now be 100% certain that I would not have bought the plane though I think it's unlikely. If I had bought the T7 after reading the section about OOM etc I am 100% certain I would not have started this thread. I see at the end of all your posts you have a drawing of I presume Uncle Sam saying "I want you to read the manuals" yet you seem to have some difficulty with the fact that I too want to read the manuals. Ironic! I feel there is little to be gained by carrying on with this discussion but if you again misrepresent my views I will of course reply. Regards Nixon Thomas
October 4, 201312 yr These mega airports from AS uses alot of memory. I just did a flight with T7 using 2 mega aiports. LFPG to LSZH. I disabled every scenery except the 2. I'm also using FTX global. Autogen set to normal and scene complexity to dense. Ai traffic was 30%. I was able to land but I ran out of memory. This is a first with the T7. I'm going to do a flight between 2 flytampa airports and see how it goes.
