November 30, 200421 yr Greg, sorry it did nothing for you. This is even more surprising as we have almost the same board (I have the Deluxe version). I really hoped my explanation would find some more validation with rigs like yours. I hate to be misleading. At least you have a lot more diskspace now.Alex
November 30, 200421 yr Here can you find some answers, why this works for some systems, but not for all. 2 threads from September 2003:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...ing_type=searchhttp://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...ing_type=search Wolfgang
November 30, 200421 yr I'm starting to wonder if those who get improvements after compressing either have DMA transfers disabled or, have a dodgy mobo chipset and/or crappy chipset drivers installed...One way of testing that is to yank out the soundcard and any other PCI cards (or possibly just disabling them) and seeing if that reduces stutters. It could be that the southbridge is being overloaded. When I get my new system this week I'll have the ability of testing the tweak on three separate systems - if none of them show an improvement I'll have to conclude that this tweak only works if something else is amiss in the system. -
November 30, 200421 yr I don't know guys but what I've found last night that gave me a some improvement was to uncompress all my texture folders. It seems my system has an easier time loading textures when those files are uncompressed. Like what was mentioned above, it looks as if '.bmp' files in a compressed state have to be expanded to their regular size before they can be displayed in FlightSim. When coming in for a landing at KLGA at dusk, you don't need the system spending extra time expanding files so they can be displayed. From what I'm seeing on my system, compressing your whole installation if FS2k4 is a bad idea. Textures need to stay their original sizes. I uncompressed my main 'Texture' folder, my Ultimate Traffic AI aircraft folders, and various scenery folders (Simflyer's for sure) to test things out. I'm still looking but it seems my stutters when looking around from the VC is greatly reduced (or at least it seems my system accesses the files much faster than before). I still have stutters when panning but the textures load up quicker which equates to less stutters because the system has easier access to the files in question FS2020 Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR
November 30, 200421 yr Alex,I compressed my COF directories yesterday. Now I'm testflying from EHAM to LOWI. But so far, looks great. Thanx for the tip. Regards, Jeroen The Netherlands
November 30, 200421 yr Yeah, something on my system must be completely fubar..screenie is 1600x1000, 4xAA, 8xAF quality. Omega drivers. Trust me I don't fake this stuff. Ah, and the screenie was made with all XP Home default services enabled.Alexhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/99339.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/99340.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/99341.jpg
