Transponder at pushback

Featured Replies

Hi Bryan,

I know you are probably busy getting the 777 version of FS2Crew ready for the awaiting SDK from PMDG, however I was reading some airport information and came across ground radar information which states that transponders should be turned on before pushback or taxi which ever is first. With so many larger airports getting ground radar, I know it makes no difference in FSX, would it be possible for an update to give the option of transponder at this time instead of the runway entry procedure?

Thanks

Craig

Hi!

This is an option in the CFG-panel I think. Select "YES" for ASDE-X and the FO will turn on the transponder before taxi, and keep it on when taxiing in after landing.

Always wondered what the ASDE-X button was for. Serves me right for not reading the manuals completely. Thanks for the answers.

So I have tried the ASDE-X option and it made no difference. The first officer turned on the transponder on runway entry procedure.

Where is this CFG-panel located? Have hunted for it but cannot seem to locate it.

And why does the FO not switch on the APU as part of his Pre-Flight Checks?

Hi Rick,

It's in the AppData FS2Crew folder.

Users\-----  YOUR USER NAME HERE ------\AppData\Roaming\FS2Crew2010\Versions\PMDG737NGX\SavedData\FS2CrewData.ini

You need to turn on the APU unless you've told FS2Crew prior to running the PF events that you'll be using the APU... not ever departure will involve the use of the APU.

Cheers,

Hi Bryan

Okay, found that CFG-panel. Even though my ASDEX=1(which I take to be affirmative, i.e. yes), the FO like Craig reporting it, only turns it on prior to Runway Procedure. And I cannot find an option to tell FS2Crew prior to running the PF events that I'll be using the APU. Also noticed, that the left-side bank of landing lights do not get switched on by the FO.

ASDEX:  Look on the Config Panel here right below crew region:

http://www.support.fs2crew.com/help/manuals/#pageid=configuration_panel

APU:  Look at Power Source here:

Lights:  Please check the flows document.  You probably forgot to run the "Runway Entry Procedure".

FO's flow:

Before Takeoff

Trigger -> Captain announces takeoff clearance has been received with the command: “RUNWAY ENTRY PROCEDURE”.

  1. Strobes on.
  2. Fixed Landing Lights on.
  3. Runway Turnoff Lights on.
  4. Taxi Lights off.
  5. Center Fuel Pumps off (only if center fuel less than 2300 Kgs).
  6. Terrain on (left off to avoid possible performance issues).
  7. VSD on if available.
  8. Xponder TA/RA.
  9. TFC on.

Takeoff

Trigger -> Captain announces: "TAKEOFF”.

  1. Retractable Landing Lights on.
  2. Elapsed Time on.

Hi Bryan

Many thanks for your superlatively prompt response.

I do not see that CFG-panel maybe because I'm using the Button Version, so no Crew Region, etc. I have a feeling that your reply is appertaining to the Voice Control version, which I have as part of the Bundle I bought off you, but being an old dog, brought up on your Level-D & PMDG 747-400 Button Versions, I'm more used to that rather than the Voice Control options.

Hi Bryan

You don't by any chance also market handguns, do you? Coz if you do, please send me one! Better still, send me one of those cone hats with a big D on it so I can go hide in a corner of the classroom. How silly of me not to spot that CFG button on the Main Panel. Mia Culpa, Mia Culpa, Mia Culpa.

Should be plain sailing now.

Thanks for your help.
