October 9, 201312 yr Please could someone help me, I'm receiving these errors during a reinstall (related to simconnect).
October 9, 201312 yr You have remnants of FSX located on your system and that's causing the errors. Completely uninstall FSX and make sure all hidden fsx files are also removed. Here's a guide on uninstalling FSX which shows exactly where hidden folders are located (look for them after you complete the uninstall) http://support.precisionmanuals.com/KB/a87/how-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-fsx.aspx. After you are sure all files have been removed, run a freeware registry cleaner to clean up any remnants of FSX there. Now reinstall FSX using the guide. Make sure you run FSX at least one time before installing SP1 (or Acceleration). Best regards, Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! October 9, 201312 yr I've done this, gone into absolutely every folder possible, not just the ones listed. A general piece of advice: After uninstalling always run CCleaner to clear out suff from the registry, then reboot before installing anything new. October 9, 201312 yr Author I manually deleted the Microsoft.simconnect files in the WinSxS folder after I uninstalled, is this going to have an impact?
October 9, 201312 yr Author A general piece of advice: After uninstalling always run CCleaner to clear out suff from the registry, then reboot before installing anything new. I just did a CCleaer issue analysis and they were all FSX missing registry keys, just fixed all 6000 issues and now going to try a reinstall, hopefully it will work!!!
October 9, 201312 yr After uninstalling always run CCleaner to clear out suff from the registry That's what I recommended above too. CCleaer issue analysis and they were all FSX missing registry keys, just fixed all 6000 issues Sounds like you just cleaned more than just the registry! It's a shame we have to use another piece of software to get rid of uninstalls and other issues in the registry and system. You would think that Microsoft would have picked up on this neat technology by now! Hope it works. Best regards, Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! Yeah haha I basically fixed every issue under CCleaner. I have to say I agree, I am a little bewildered as to why Microsoft hadn't put more resources into making FSX more accepting of new technology and operating systems considering the amount of people that use it.
October 10, 201312 yr That's what I recommended above too. No, you said a freeware registry cleaner - there are lot's of them out there, and some do more damage than good! CCleaner is the only one I trust. I got that advice from from a very knowledagble guy I know that works for Intel in Phoenix Arizona. Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!

Just tried reinstalling and I'm getting the same errors :( Sorry the recommendations did not work. These are common installation errors you are receiving. You can try uninstalling/reinstalling FSX again OR reinstall Windows and then try reinstalling FSX. It appears a registry entry was leftover and cannot be removed. A reinstall of Windows will fix that. Best regards, Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! October 10, 201312 yr Unbelievable response! Best regards, Sorry, did not mean to come across as an as*hole if that was what you were responding to? I know some of these registry cleaners can do very harmful changes to your registry, so if you don't know what you are doing and aren't an expert in the Windows Registry it is kind of hard to know what software to trust. CCleaner has proved itself as not being very agressive and as such is fairly safe to use. As a non-Windows expert I need to take advice from experts that I can trust, hence the reference to the guy at Intel. Is it better to restore my pc to factory settings or reinstall windows? That sounds kind of drastic! Have you tried uninstalling, then reinstalling other programs, and if you do, do you encoutner the same kind of problems? Have you done a virus and malware scan? October 10, 201312 yr Author Yes I have spent hours doing everything imaginable. My PC is very new so I don't have tonnes of apps or files on it to backup.
October 10, 201312 yr Sorry, did not mean to come across as an as*hole if that was what you were responding to? Apology accepted! CCleaner is a good one but not the best IMHO and you will not find any that will be harmful. They basically clean out junk that accumulates and gets rid of registry items that were not removed for some reason when you uninstalled a program. However, anytime one messes with the system registry problems can occur. Most if not all backup your registry before cleaning. I personally do not use CCleaner and use a payware program called Advanced System Care. I really appreciate your willingness to help your fellow members though! We have all been in these predicaments where something in our computers just does not work right and we have a lot of members who are not computer experts or even intermediate computer users. Best regards, Jim Yes I have spent hours doing everything imaginable. My PC is very new so I don't have tonnes of apps or files on it to backup. Believe restoring your system to factory settings is the same as reinstalling Windows. I would restore to system factory settings as reinstalling Windows could remove any factory setting you might like. Best regards, Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource!
