Flight planner alternatives?

Featured Replies

I'm looking for a replacement for FSNav. I had to do a reinstall a few days ago and have lost my code. No response from support in regards to issuing another key.I really like FSNav because of its simplicity but don't want to buy it again when there may be something better that I don't know about. Any suggestions? Thanks,Mark

Thanks for asking this question. I would also be interested in any flight planner recommendations that anyone may have.

Give Helge Schroeder a chance to respond. I've had to ask for my code several times over the past few years and He has always sent it in a reasonable time no questions asked.

Don't know if they will respond. But, personally feel it's worth paying for a second time. If you try some others, there may be demos around. You can also get FSNav 3.0 for nothing, and it certainly is much better than FS9's flight planner. About a decade ago, it happened to me, so now when I get Keys, also make a printout of the message or page they are on, and keep them in a "Software Folder." Highly recommend everyone do that, they can benefit from your experience. Also, nowdays I burn a copy of the folder or master file on a CD. Use a Re-write CD, and burn things like my Aircraft and scenery folder on them. Making another backup every few months. Saves a lot of headache's when re-formating, etc.. Believe there are some around, you might just do a search in library here and on www.flightsim.com for "Flight Planner" ... Bob

Take a look at FS Commander at http://www.fscommander.com/index.htmI have no idea if it's any good only that it looks interesting. Take a look and make up your own mind.--Tom________http://mysite.verizon.net/tjrush/caasig.jpgWhen once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the Earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you will always long to return. --- Leonardo da Vinci

Yeah, Give them a chance. Just recently I let them know I lost my key and they sent me a new one within 24 hrs. Happend a year 1/2 ago too.Great program.WS

id say wait a bit longer ... they may have to search though a pile of puchase records...

I second that. After FSNav corrupted my FS2002 install to the point of uselessness (had to reinstall FS, just uninstalling FSNav didn't work) I purchased FSBuild and haven't looked back.

use the defaut MS planner, not that bad if you do your own sid/star

I beg to differ: the MS Default planner is relly not good at all and the navdata will never be updated until the next FS release, apparently due to restrictions placed on MS by Jeppesen. A far better one is FSBuild as an earlier poster said is FSBuild from www.fsbuild.com which has (at least for the time being) monthly AIRAC updates. It exports to a wide range of file formats like PMDG, PSS as well as FS2002, FS2004 etc. I now use this (as well as BAV's own flight planner) and keep FSNav just as a moving map display. A free alternative planner which is also good is pmfp from www.pmfp.com

Give the FSNav guys a chance to answer. In the meantime, download the freeware version of FSBuild and if you like it, purchase the payware version.

Depends how rich you are, but as I need it for real world flight planning, I also use Jeppesen FliteMap very often for my sim flights. FliteMap is the more expensive variant of FliteStar and the Europe IFR version costs right now US$649.00 in Jeppesen shop. FliteStar IFR is US$399.00. I don't know, those prices look a bit too expensive to me, I think I have seen the software for much cheaper prices at some exhibition or other internet shop... Anyway, it is just my two cents, it would be quite pointless to buy it just for your sim needs.

I have used FSNav for some time. But since I started using Project Magenta software, Ive kinda gotten used to the idea of running all FS programs on separate computers from my main flight sim computer. So, Ive been using FS Commander now and run it on my wireless laptop using WideFS.I tell you, its the only way to go.Its a real slick program.I can sit downstairs with my laptop, plan my flight, print it out on the laser printer next to my cockpit, enter the waypoints in my PM CDU, then connect FSCommander to flight sim and have a moving map and all the aiport information I need right at hand.Hope this helps.John whiteNewburgh, INhttp://jtw737.mysimflight.com

The lower prices you've seen elsewhere may be outdated versions or versions without navdata (thus useless without an extra purchase). And of course Jep has to calculate in shipping charges as well.
