  2. Wow that looks really good. Thanks for the tip.
  3. Thanks for letting us know.
  4. I appreciate this info. I wasn't entirely clear on this subject myself.
  5. I just want to thank everyone for your thoughtful and helpful responses. It's really helped me put everything back in perspective. After reading your posts,I think it would be best to go ahead and use both the MS and X-Plane sim for now. Why not enjoy the best of two worlds. Thanks Again
  6. I've just decided to stop using FSX and FS2004. After using both of these excellent simulators, as well as X-Plane (on and off) for many years, I think its time to for me to make a switch. As of today, I'm going to throw my support behind X-Plane and start using it instead. I'm not asking for anyone to agree with me, nor am I asking for support (I'll head over the the X-Plane forum for that), I just wanted to share a few thoughts about what led me to make this decision:First and foremost. Microsoft (MS) fatigue. The day that MS dropped the Aces franchise was a turning point for me and my view of MS was radically changed forever. Was I surprised? Yes, but I shouldn't have been. MS has a long history of starting projects and either leaving them half baked or dropping them entirely. I've always loved the MS Flight Sims and purchased every single one since FS98. Now, Other than Windows 7 which I really like and enjoy using (mostly because I have too for iTunes/iPhone support) I try to remain as MS free as possible. Also, I'm really tired of the MS activation hassles. Secondly, I'm tired of the FSX/FS2004 hassles too. I just had to do a complete reformat of my system and I'm not just no going to spend countless hours getting the MS Sims up and running again. (Gee I wonder how many activations I have left on my FSX disk?) Am I going to have to make another call to India to get FSX Activated again? I don't think so...Thirdly, I love the simplicity of the one folder X-Plane install/uninstall process. Lastly, I'm fully aware that FSX/FS2004 are the big gorillas in the flight simulation world and that X-Plane still looks a little rough in comparison. However, the X-plane franchise is definitely alive and well with support that I think I can depend on, at least for now. To me it seems like X-Plane is my best option for the near future. Thanks for listening.

I really hope someone can answer this question. I'd also like to know if registration procedures have changed with aces gone.
  8. Thanks for the information. I didn't know this was available.
  9. I have a similar situation, c & d. I think i'll move everything to d drive also.Thanks for the recommendation.
  10. Thanks for the information. I'm a Hawaii nut and will be looking forward to this release.
  11. I had similar experiences with them in the past. At one point I had some questions and tried to get them to respond, I was completely ignored. After that I stopped using their products and haven't looked back.Best Wishes

Hi All.I want to say a Big Thanks to everyone for the great responses to my question.I've decided, at least for now, not install the Ultimate Defrag trial and to continue using Perfect Disk 2008. I really like the idea of just setting it and forgetting it. I don't think I want to babysit my defragger at this point in time. Also, I just recently reformatted and reinstalled my system. I sure don't want to take a risk and possibly mess it up.Best WishesflykingVirtual AviatorSystem Specs:Used to be Vista (XP Now)AMD Athlon 64 2413MHzNVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT, 256MBMemory: 3071MBSB X-FI Xtreme Gamer

  16. I just downloaded the Ultimate Defrag trial version but haven't installed it yet.I searched but couldn't find very much current information regarding the effectiveness of this de-fragmentation program.Does anyone have any experiences with it, positive or negative?I received an e-Mail from PC Aviator regarding a special sale they're running on it.I'm currently using Perfect Disk 2008. Would Ultimate Defrag be substantially better? Thanks.flykingVirtual AviatorSystem Specs:Used to be Vista (XP Now)AMD Athlon 64 2413MHzNVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT, 256MBMemory: 3071MBSB X-FI Xtreme Gamer

Thanks again for the heads up.
  19. Thanks for the tip. I'm off to check out the MD-80.

I too recently reformatted (dumped Vista) and went back to XP. I've installed both FSX and FS9. I find myself spending allot more time in FS2004 because my system performs much better with it. However I'm glad I have the option of using both Sim's when I choose.I created separate partitions for each Sim, although I doubt that separate partitions are required, it helps me stay better organized.I'm also going to be checking out X-Plane 9.Best Wishes.
  21. Does anyone know of a free aircraft addon manager for FSX? I've been searching on the net but I'm having trouble finding one.I would also be interested in the best payware version available.Thanks.flykingVirtual AviatorSystem Specs:Used to be Vista (XP Now)AMD Athlon 64 2413MHzNVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT, 256MBMemory: 3071MBSB X-FI Xtreme Gamer
  22. Sir,I really appreciate your post. Your point is well taken. In my case this new era of flight simming has almost gotten beyond my ability to keep up with it and keep track of all of my purchased addons and needed updates. It seems to get more complicated with every year that passes. And much more expensive as well. In a way it reminds me of why Few people like to go to Waikiki these days. Excessive commercialism. I find the fact there are those like yourselves that can remember those good old days encouraging.I appreciate your response.flykingVirtual AviatorSystem Specs:Used to be Vista (XP Now)AMD Athlon 64 2413MHzNVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT, 256MBMemory: 3071MBSB X-FI Xtreme Gamer
  23. I think what we really need is less commercialism and more freeware. The relentless drive for the next buck has taken allot of the fun out of this wonderful hobby. Please don't flame me. I've heard it all before and I really don't care if anyone else agrees with me or not.I do know one thing for sure--I enjoyed this hobby more back in the days when the prevailing motto was "Lets Keep It Free"flykingVirtual AviatorSystem Specs:Used to be Vista (XP Now)AMD Athlon 64 2413MHzNVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT, 256MBMemory: 3071MBSB X-FI Xtreme Gamer
  24. I agree. There was a time when I was convinced that Vista was a step backwards. This was partly due to all the negative comments I kept hearing about Vista (Much of this negativity was coming from people who really didn't know what they were talking about). I'm loving Vista now after using it for awhile and giving it a chance. For me, XP = Boring Ugly and Vista = A Way Cool Computing Experience. I'm loving Vista.flykingVirtual AviatorSystem Specs:VistaAMD Athlon 64 2413MHzNVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT, 256MBMemory: 3071MBSB X-FI Xtreme Gamer
  25. While using RC4.3 with FSX the distance to next checkpoint and radio frequency is showing, however, the heading for the correct bearing to checkpoint is not showing at all.Does anyone know how I can fix this or get it to show properly? Thanks in advance.
