Calling all airport workers/spotters

Featured Replies

Hi all

I thought I would start this here but could be used for pretty much any FS platform

I have noticed that in fsx some airport runway take off or landings use the wrong ones either because the afcad file is wrong or because fsx just chooses the wrong one

for example at EGLL (LHR) you sometimes are given 09L as the take off runway but in reality They VERY rarely use, if ever, use this runway for take off, similarly at EGKK (LGW) you sometime are given 08L or 26R which is only used in emergencies or if the main runway is out  but I'm guessing again very rarely used .

Now this is ok if you happen to live within the area of the airports concerned or work at one you can change your afcad file to reflect the fact that these runways are configured wrong ,but what if you live in a different part of the world how do you know what runways are the commonly used ones and what are not.

So how about telling everyone then we can build up a database I'll start with

EGLL -LHR  09L very rarely used for take off's and 09R very rarely used for landings

EGKK- LGW  08L and 26R only used rarerly if main runway out

EGPH -EDI 12-30 only time its used if main runway undergoing repair work

feel free to add

Thanks

I don't think FSX can split runway duties like you'd need to be able to have correct traffic behaviour at EGLL, and just chooses the closest runway that is suitable for the wind conditions.

Actually, it is possible to open a runway for take-offs/landings only via ADE, IIRC. However, I doubt that it makes sense at large airports such as Heathrow, because the AI engine is most likely not capable of handling the amount of traffic there, if all landings are performed on one runway only. This would lead to loads of go-arounds and disappearing traffic, simply because ATC isn't capable of making a sequence that allows aircraft to land without too much delay.

So, with ones are commonly used then?

KLAX: Takeoffs: 25R, 24L. Landings: 25L, 24R, usually visual.

After midnight, takeoff on 24/25's but landing on the 6s and 7s

Most of America is easy because you can just listen in on liveatc.net and hear the operations. Other parts of the world are more difficult, you have to research pictures and posts of people giving this info.

ok for some reason it won't let me so

EGLL normal take off's are on 27L,27R and 09R landings are on 27L,27R and 09L

generally depending on the wind direction if they are using 27L,R they will swap runways about 15:00 so if they had been using 27L for landings in the morning then after 15:00 it would be used for take off's

if they are using the 09 runways then L is used fror landing and R is used for take off

hope that clears it up a bit
