December 7, 200421 yr Well, I had my try with the demo of MaxiVista. It is an app tha allows you to run windowed apps on 2nd PC. Its a piece of cake to install. Fs2004 Has to be in windowed mode for it to work. I tested with default cessna at some big airport, don't remember the small stuff. also loaded up AS2004 and FSNAV. I took off and opend up the radio stack, udocked it and slid it to 2nd PC screen, Opened up the fsgps and slid it to the 2nd screen. Hit F9 and opened FSNav undocked it and slid it to the 2nd PC screen. I have my fps locked at 30, and even at large airport I never go lower than 20 usualy stays at 28.5. With all this going My fps was running at 10 to 15. not much fun compared to what Im used to. I tried this thing because Ive seen it mentioned that you couldnt run FSNAV on networked machine. I've already got WideFS. but I was looking for other options for moving map etc. I did accomplish getting FSNAV on another screen. I think this program would be fantastic for office work and even big Graphics programs. You could have main render screen on main pc and all the tools on 2nd pc screen. the cost of this thing is US$50.00 Since im looking concerning FS sim I think I'll have to decide to pass on this one. It will run 100 times before demo times out. if your game to try ityou should find it athttp://www.maxivista.com Maybe some one will have better success.JimC. December 7, 200421 yr However it is great for multiple external programs. I run Active Sky, Active Radar and other stuff on a second monitor and still reun FS04 in Full Screen mode. YMMV. Paragraphs, we don't need no stinkin' paragraphs.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
December 7, 200421 yr JSKorna, are you saying that you run external proggys thru MaxiVista(new Paragraph) I thought that you could only push windows running on your main pc over to the second pc.(new Paragraph) I think you have me lost now, if that is the case. I had fps degradation because of running all that from my fs machine. Please explain how you would run external program with Maxivista.(no more new Paragraphs)(ps. just joking around)JimC. December 7, 200421 yr Hi,Not sure if "running programs" is the correct terminology. The programs are still running on my main machine. However, they are being displayed on my laptop via MaxiVista. My main machine is still doing the work. To reduce load on my main machine I would need to use WideFS and a registered copy of FSUIPC. All MV does is create more desktop viewing space through a network setup.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

December 8, 200421 yr Hi,I have used MaxiVista as well, and have used it on some machines withless impact on frame rates, on others it was significant. I haven
January 5, 200521 yr Jim, you are SUCH a knowledgeable guy on this stuff! If you have the time, could you possibly post a pretty detailed WideFS set up checklist. I reviewed the Dawson site which, not being technically inclined, I simply didn't understand. What I want to do is to use a second PC (P4,1.7,512) to display such frame rate hogs as GPS etc. and from what I can tell, WideFS is the way to go.I am about to set up a new rig with an X850 with dual monitor capability but want to go the dual PC route anyway.I am a registered FSUIPC user.I tried to search the forums for WideFS but got hundreds of hits, most of which don't seem to apply.THANKS!!Jim
January 5, 200521 yr Hi Uwe,I also have Ozie (for hiking, in combination with a Garmin eTrex) and would like to use it for FS2004. But until now I did not succeed in connecting both. It has to be something in this GPSout.ini settings. How did you do it? And do I have to adjust something in Ozie also?Herrie
January 5, 200521 yr Jim,I have been running a 2 PC set up with widefs & FSUIPC for years, mainly to help frame rates especially when flying on VATSIM.First requirement is to network your 2 PCs together. All you need for that is a networkcard in each PC and a cross-over network cable. The PC that is connected to the internet will have 2 network cards, one for the Internet and one for the connection to the other PC.Set up the network via the guide that will be available from your operating system (Win98, ME, or XP)Once you are sure the 2 PC's 'talk' to each other you can then set up Widefs.I run FS9 on the PC NOT connected to the Internet and things like AS2004.5, ServInfo, SB & AVC on the Internet connected PC.Note that Widefs will not allow you to put different FS views on the 2nd PC, for that you need Wideview, but it will allow you to run external programs such as AS2004.5.FSNav cannot be run on the second PC because it runs as part of FS, the same may be true for the FS GPS.HTH
January 5, 200521 yr Hi,what kind of hardware do you have? I have two machines and connected them via a serial cross over cable (called a "null modem cable"). This setup is the only one supported I think. GPSout (the module by Pete Dowson) can
January 6, 200521 yr Hi again Uwe,well, I have a three PC + 1 laptop network at home, using a (wireless)router. For FS I use my fastest (double monitor) PC and the laptop. I have a Garmin eTrex Legend (a brother of your Venture)that communicates with Ozi and Mapsource via the serial cable connection of the Garmin, same as yours I think. So I already tried to send position data from FS2004 via GPSout to the Garmin but, until now, without succes. So what settings of gpsout.ini do you use and do I have to adjust the settings of the Garmin also (to be capable to receive NMEA 183)? Because the only serial port of my PC is constantly in use by the Garmin connection, I rather not use this port for a null modem connection to the laptop. But maybe I should give it a try. And then the question is again: what settings should I use (also in Ozi itself).I also asked myself if GPSout is able to export the data to Ozi on THE SAME PC. The screen output can always be sent to the second monitor. And is Mapsource also able to receive this data?A lot of questions, hope you don't mind. But is extremely difficult to get a clear view on the options I have with my hardware. I now know that FsNav cannot run seperately on a second PC. FScommander can do it, but all in all I would need registered versions of FSUIPC and WideFS and FScommander itself(together 70 euro) to do the trick. A big investment, being not sure beforehand if it would work the way I hope. That is why I first of all try to find out if a moving map is possible on a second PC. If that could be realized I have more options for choosing a flightplanner.I look forward to your answers.Herrie
