WHICH CPU FOR ME FOR FSX

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

At last I am able to treat myself to a CPU upgrade. I have read about options till my eyes are spinning but I can find no definitive guide as to what I should get.

I am limited a bit by budget - no more than a 3770k. But is that the best buy? I only play FSX.

I have:

Z77A - G43 Mobo
4 x 4 GB DDR3 1600 RAM
750w PSU
GTX 560 ti Video Card (coming already)

So, is it:

i7 3770K
or
i7 2700K
or
i7 2600K
or
i5 3570K
or
i5 2550K
or
i5 2500K
??
or any one I have missed!

All of these have been recommended at some recent point on some 'knowledgeable' site. See why my eyes spin and my head hurts?!

Thanks,

Ian

Yes 3770k it is a goood option than overclock, get a new heatsink and you will be fine, If you have win7 64 bit go for 6 to 8 gig of ram and you will be set. Haswell the newest isnt much faster and produces a lot ore heat. you will be finer.

I have just been through this decision and due to the fact that I only use my rig for FSX, I went with the 3570k. I also researched the 4770k but stayed away because of its reputation regarding heat issues.

I have now been finished and using my system (see my sig) for about a month now and have to say that I am very happy. Nothing is ever perfect when it comes to FSX, but I have the smoothest and most stable rig I have experienced so far.

It beats my previous 2600k @ 4.4g rig, only marginally as far as FPS goes, but smoothness and stability is much improved.

Regards,

Rick Hobbs

I'd read this before you do anything: http://www.simforums.com/forums/the-fsx-computer-system-the-bible-by-nickn_topic46211.html

Nick, the author, helped me when I built my current system. I have been using the same FSX install and the same overclock for just over 4 years with great results. Yes, my system is getting a little worn and I think my CPU is going to cry uncle soon, but I could not have been happier with his advice.

EDIT: I see you made your decision. You should still use his guide for configuration. In fact, that's the main point of the guide.

MSFS Premium Deluxe Edition; Windows 11 Pro, I9-9900k; Asus Maximus XI Hero; Asus TUF RTX3080TI; 32GB G.Skill Ripjaw DDR4 3600; 2X Samsung 1TB 970EVO; NZXT Kraken X63; Seasonic Prime PX-1000, LG 48" C1 Series OLED, Honeycomb Yoke & TQ, CH Rudder Pedals, Logitech G13 Gamepad

Yep, agree, but why don´t he get his "Bible" finished?

"I will be getting the rest of this thread put together as well as finishing the Haswell clocking thread this month.. I am focusing on the final Haswell clocking posts first so users know how to clock, test and trim a Haswell clock properly."

Post from Sep. 2 - and nothing since then, I guess he´s working on GEX now ORBX Global is out!

:P

I'd also say the 3770K would be a good bet for you. Easily overclocked.

Hi Vic, how ya doin? Do you know if  "Active Sky Next" will allow users to select pre-custom weather scenarios, say like Stormy Day, Clear Day, Snowy Day, etc, etc ?
