Strange/Annoying Weather Behaviour

Featured Replies

On approach the other day into YBBN where the storm was overhead, I was receiving very strange and annoying weather behaviour through AS2012.  I will try hard to explain what I was seeing and hope I can get the picture across:  Essentially when I was descending, suddenly a periodic (probably at a constant/unvaried frequency of 1Hz) "tick..tick.." sound started going.  I can see my speed suddenly dropped about 20-30 knots on my speed tape, and that it jerked up (the speed) in sync with every tick, but it doesn't stay up; it jumps up and down with every tick.

After descending through a certain layer of this behaviour, it smoothed out with the speed goes back up by 20-30 knots.  And after another layer of the smooth depiction (hope I use this work right here), I get this jerky behaviour again about 500ft from touchdown, and the landing went really bad.

I'm not sure if I've gotten the picture across, but since I don't know how to explain the situation, I'm not sure how to even scour the internet for possible explanation/fixes.

I was flying the NGX at the time if that helps at all.

Hope to get some support here if I may.

cheers

No ideas?

I've noticed it happens more often than I initially thought.  Happened again last night...

Brendan,

This is a wild shot as I'm no expert.  In the readme.rtf file, there is info about NGX aircraft and weather settings.  That file is in your AS2012 directory.  Of course, you may have already seen it.

I fly the PMDG 737 NGX every once in a while, but I haven't had any issues like yours.  And, I may never have flown in any bad weather either..ha.

Just trying to assist....Rod

No I haven't seen it yet, I'll have a look, thanks for bringing it up.  But this happens to two GA aircraft I've flown; the A2A C172 and RA Duke V2 as well, so although it might be more pronounced on the NGX, other aircraft (ones I've tried) gets it as well.

Don't know what would cause the tick tick. But the speed changes...maybe you hit some wind shear? Slightly makes sense if there's a storm overhead.

When the speed change happens, thats when the tick happens.  And the speed goes back to normal when the tick stops (or maybe one causes another the other way around).

I seem to get this sort of problem too, but not sure about the tick sound.

My problems seems to be from about 500ft to touchdown but it only seems to be happening at ENGM Oslo.

Don't no wot causes it, but the weather atis metar doesn't seem to match up to the metar which is given in active sky 2012.
