777 and DX10

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've been playing around with DX10 for the last week after reading here that it can cure the dreaded OOM errors.

I have been trying to fly the new PMDG 777 from Birmingham EGBB to Dubai OMDB. My sim has been running in DX9 mode for the last four years. Every time I fly to Dubai using the new PMDG777 either just prior to touchdown or approaching the airport Boom the OOM appears. Now I haven't seen this for years using any of my usual planes, usually the MD11. So today lets try the same route, same plane, real weather etc but in DX10 mode.............Wow what a difference, ok no great increase in FPS but so so smooth, which is actually more important to me than FPS. No OOM and such wonderful skies and the lighting during the night arrival, just brilliant.

So boyed by the success of this flight, I went ahead and bought Steve's Scenery Fixer. Wonderful, any little errors I had noticed in the trial flight were gone after installation of the Scenery fixer. Everything looks bright and clear.............It's like my sim has been given a whole new make over!

Needless to say, I am 100% converted to DX10..............Now why didn't Microsoft just finish the job before getting the Aces Studio shut down?

I did notice the tool tips are missing, but I think I read something about a fix for that somewhere!

Thanks Steve if you read the posts here, great work and much appreciated. Thankyou.

Happy Flying,

Dave Phillips.

I'll post soon my first month positive feedback about Fixer!

Yes my friend! Not only no OOMs but even no OOM alerts from FSUIPC with PMDG 737 NGX at Aerosoft EHAM or UK2000 EGLL where almost always never succeed to land with DX9.

Hi Jewel,

Yep flew OMDB to VHHX today both FlyTampa including a hold over Hong Kong and no OOM, brilliant and when I landed in Kai Tak there was a strong side wind and waves in the harbour! Never saw that in DX9 mode before.

So yep very very impressed with DX10 mode still. Only thing I have found not working is the tool tips in full screen mode when I have both screens set to fsx one VC the other spot view! Guess I will just have to learn where all those switches are. They do work in windowed mode, just I'm not keen on windowed mode!

hi there, took the plunge and bought steves fixer out of shear frustration with t7 freezing and  actually to my surprise completed long flight from jakarta to egll no problems or freezes, great ! just a bit annoyed that on landing no terminal buildings, justthe jetways and ground equipment, changed over to my home hub (eham) exact same, disabled dx10 restarted and still no terminal buildings uk2000 extreme for heathrow tried on, off, in scenery fixer still nothing. with eham

fsx default and also nl2000 scenery with same scenario, i do note in the forums there appears to be more than a few

airports incompatible with dx10, however as these are 2 major european hubs i would have expected them to work ok.

within steves fixer, i am a newbie with dx10 so any help on what to try next would be much appreciated, thank you.

Hi Graeme,

Well glad you managed to get some long haul flights in using the 777. I have to admit that I don't have the scenery you mentioned, I have East Midlands and Birmingham Extreme from UK2000 and haven't noticed any issues up to now, EGLL I have the UK2000 VFR airfields, so I will try and visit there over the next few days, although I usually try and avoid the London airports as they slow my frames down too much. Although now I'm using DX10 I might have to try them again.

Hope you find a fix soon.

Happy Flying,

Dave Phillips.

I am unaware of any issues with eggl, I have the free version and I have tried out the extreme demo as well.

Do the buildings appear in dx9, do they appear during the day?

Googling the uk2000 forums, the buildings won't appear if your scenery complexity is set to very sparse or you have multiple heathrow installs.

hi steve,

i have all the freeware uk 2000 airports installed,  all the others are fine apart from egll. scenery slider all the way to

left in steves fixer, also autogen set to dense in fsx. thing is even switching back to dx9 when both eggl & eham worked

ok. i have no terminal buildings apart from jetways & ground traffic. at one time i did have aerosoft egll airport , but uninstalled more than a year ago i do not have any other payware airports as i feel they lose you to much in fps

just installed nl 2000  v4.5 this weekend as  i read in another post this is compatible in dx 10. however unfortunately

i get the same result with schiphol. i have the latest version of steves fixer build 24. however i will look at the patches

and blog you suggest  to see if i can glean any further info in how to fix my problem. just wondering what has changed in my cfg to cause this and can it be remedied ? many thanks for your reply.

Thanks steve,

changed from original 4x to 8ss and egll now showing , however no luck with eham which i really do need to have i have read onanother thread i should have 2 specific entries in my cfg graphics which are not there, do i have to enter these manually ?i do have another slight problem with runway lighting being much to bright, even though slider way to the left, i should also mention i use rex overdrive, could there be some kind of conflict with runway lights any

pointers with these issues would be much appreciated . thank you.
