Just downloaded and installed pmdg777. When selecting this aircraft in fsx it opens in the virtual cockpit view. I then select the cockpit view but it then opens in what looks like the virtual cockpit but facing down onto the runway. Any ideas?

Please don't tell me you're looking for a 2D cockpit..

If you are.. You won't find it..

PMDG don't make 2D cockpits anymore. Their last aircraft with a 2D cockpit was the NGX, but given the advances in VC graphics and functionality, there's no real point in making a 2D anymore. 

I'm not sure why I should be looking for a 2D cockpit? 3D selected in fsx. All my aircraft including other PMDG add ons open in the virtual cockpit mode. I then go to view mode > cockpit > select cockpit and the cockpit view opens up. YET  the PMDG777 does not change to the cockpit view but opens as another virtual cockpit at a different downward view.

Once more: There is NO 2d cockpit..
So selecting cockpit in the views is useless.

In the view mode select virtual cockpit rather than cockpit. It you select cockpit your view will be from the nose of the plane.

I am not sure I understand well the problem, and this will sound too trivial.

But if the problem is that the initial VC view appears pointing down to the runway, rather that attempting to open a new VC view I would try pressing the space bar while holding the mouse with the left click pressed down, which would move the point of view of that initial view, to see if I can change the POV to see the cockpit the way I want it. And rolling the mouse wheel I would zoom in or out to the required level.
