November 10, 201312 yr Hi to all, I'm reinstalling FSX from scratch following the well know Nick-N guide: http://www.simforums.com/forums/topic29041.html I found myself in front of a doubt when I have to update VC++ libraries: which one I have to choose x86 or x64? http://archive.msdn.microsoft.com/KB961894/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=2067 Obviuosly FSX is 32bit app, but I run it on Windows7 64bit, in your opinion which one I have to choose? Riccardo OS: Windows 10-64 bit, CPU: i7-7700K @4.20 GHz, GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 G1 8GB GDDR5, RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR4 32GB 3000MHz, MB: MSI Z270
November 10, 201312 yr Nick says to use the x86 version regardless of operating system. His instruction is a bit confusing:.When he refers to "whatever version..." he is referring to the language (en for English)' I just finished the guidelines today after a complete reinstall of everything. What a drag! good luck Neal H Neal Howard
November 10, 201312 yr Author Thanks so much, so I need x64, correct? EDIT: maybe is a stupid question, but I'll run FSX in DX10 mode with Steve DX10 Fixer, so I need also this update 9.0c? http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35 Is there a similar update for DX10? Riccardo OS: Windows 10-64 bit, CPU: i7-7700K @4.20 GHz, GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 G1 8GB GDDR5, RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR4 32GB 3000MHz, MB: MSI Z270
November 10, 201312 yr Thanks so much, so I need x64, correct? No...use the 32 bit version for FSX. "x86" means 32 bit. Even though you run a 64-bit system, 99% of the programs you'll run are 32-bit. Devin CYOW
November 10, 201312 yr FSX is a 32 bit application so only the 32 bit version will work. It performs flawlessly within a 64 bit Windows environment. Microsoft update will install updates and also install the 64 bit versions (if you have 64 bit applications on your computer). BTW, the versions required are automatically installed on your computer if the fsx installer cannot find it. You will need the 2005, 2008 and 2010 versions (believe PMDG is the only one using the 2010 version right now). They are not backward compatible. They are used by developers to make sure their product/addon is installed the way they intended. Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! November 11, 201312 yr Author Ok, I downloaded and installed 32 bit (x86) for FSX. Just now I've installed PMDG MD11 and ask me for VC++ 2005 x64 and VC++ 2005 x86, cerrectly installed. My question, even if I've installed x86 32bit for FSX, would be better to install also x64 for 64 bit for FSX or not, only I nedd the 32 bit?
