November 26, 201312 yr Just a quick one to seek some more info on the water effects. Someone mentioned in another topic that the water is not animated. That oceans for example don't have animated white caps etc or anything breaking up to shore lines. Is this true? A pic I saw recently showed what seemed to be a pretty lifeless TNCM on approach. Didn't really do much to inspire me to race out and grab V2. Happy to hear from those that have the new version. Cheers, Jas
November 26, 201312 yr i saw a video posted in one of these threads that had really nice water animation, apparently it varies by wind speed and stuff, however it is static for me. i think it might be bugged somehow, i didn't really investigate it yet but trying different water detail levels didn't really seem to make any difference. i also only have 1GB card so maybe it's something to do with that.. cheers -andy crosby
November 26, 201312 yr Water has some pretty serious issues going on - with appearance and performance. In the sunlight, I get some dizzying texture shifting animation across the surface that is illuminated by sunlight. In other places, the water is textured to look wavy but has no animation at all. Performance takes a pretty hefty hit too (Friday Harbor in FSX with max water far exceeds P3D with minimal water effects) and it's night and day performance-wise. Something is fundamentally broken with the water shaders here. Might be my graphics adapter just isn't beefy enough to ride.
November 26, 201312 yr Some details about the water from Beau (Prepar3D Software Engineer) that he just posted. We enable 3d waves on ultra and the waves are based on wind speed and direction. (You wont get a good 3d effect unless the mesh resolution is up at 1m. Just FYI) The v2 water is still a bit of a work in progress. The look of the water varies based on the altitude and there some edge cases that do look a bit odd. We spent a lot of time working out the issues with tessellation, 3d waves, shorelines, etc. When it came time for the final polish, our beta was in full swing and we had bigger fires to fight. We should have it looking a bit better with later point releases.
