Repeatable Reason for MY fps drop

Featured Replies

Default settings V2.0 i2500TO 3.3ghz, 8gb memory (1600), nVidid 550GTX 1gb memory

I start V2 at any airport and get what I consider good FPS. KHQM ORBX airport 45FPS. New York viewing Manhattan 35FPS.

Change airports still good FPS.

Note: Video card GPU usage around 96% as was predicted. Now if I go to the display setup screen and do nothing more than cancel my FPS drop to 50% of previous value. PLUS the usage on the video card GPU is now in the 70% range. Fiddling with options has so far had no effect. This drop of FPS when using the display setup is fully repeatable.

An added info:  There is what is called a "rubber banding" effect when in the higher FPS initial startup mode. It is a very regular slight stop in rendering and then a small jump ahead. Almost not noticeable. I have set all of my video options to default in Inspector and the nVidia control panel. Using 314 driver.

I have seen this as well, but subsequently hiding the menu bar I get my full FPS back.

You are correct. If I quickly just click the ALT key the blue menu top line in Window mode turns grey/gray. and at that point the FPS are high another quick tap and the top bar/menu turns blue and the fps drop by 50%. If I "fiddle" around with the ALT key it eventually locks up the program.

MSG from Lockheed:  Click on the app window. If the main window loses focus the OS throttles the application and performance degrades. This happening on some setups when doing things like using context menus, UI screens, and undocked windows. We're working on a way to prevent it but for now, just click on the app window if it seems slower than it should.

Good to know there is a workaround for this, as this problem has been something of show stopper for me.  If I make any change in settings my FPS plummets.  Up till now I would restart the sim to get them back, but tonight I will try the methods in this thread.

This is a known bug that LM acknowledged in their latest press release and it's good that there's a work around for now.

Good find Dick, and glad to hear LM is already on it.

Im not sure if what is explained above is the same situation I am facing, but it sure sounds like it. I have a GTX690, i7 3730 at 4.6 and when starting p3dv2 the frames are decent. By the time I'm ready to puch back from the gate, it's a slide show. Over a 15 minute time frame, my fps will gradually drop from the high 30's to less than 5. Making the sim unusable. At the same time, this is happening, the text on my menu bar and sub menus becomes blurry and distorted. I tried the ALT key thing with no success. Also using the latest Nvidia drivers

Same problem for me. Having spent the evening experimenting I think it can be fixed by loading your aircraft in full screen mode. I think this solution has been mentioned elsewhere. More tests tomorrow to confirm.
