November 26, 201312 yr Dear all My three year update time is here, and I have gone and ordered the following: Intel Core i7-4770 -- [7RPX5N] 1 SR 8GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600Mhz 1 SR 1TB (64MB Cache) 7200 RPM SATA 6Gb/s 1 SR NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 with 1.5G GDDR5 1 SR Operating System : Windows 8 64bit, English Now, the keen eyed amongst you will have noticed the graphics card is good, but not spectacular. 3 years ago I got a rig with a GTX 480, the bees knees at the time, but not for the first time discovered that spending out on such things makes not as much difference to CPU intensive flight sims as justified the expense. However, the news seems to be that P3D V2 transfers more effort to the card. That's worrying me now after spending out. What does the community think? How do you think my new rig will run it? Thanks all Neil
November 26, 201312 yr Commercial Member I'd go with a 4770K, just so you have the option of overclocking should you ever need it. And, the graphics card definitely needs a bump up if you're going to want all the eye candy turned on in P3DV2. I'd say if you can stretch it, get a 780. Mine works beautifully in the sim. November 26, 201312 yr I have a fairly respectable rig... 4770K @ 4.4 Ghz and a GTX 780. And I am not seeing anywhere near some of the claimed 60 fps and buttery smooth. Results will vary, especially depending on your setting. I have found locking the frame rate at 30 seems to give me the best results. Unlimited and the FPS jumps all over the place and there is a lot of lag. This is going to be a fantastic sim... we just need to allow some of the experts to tinker with it and give us the best possible solutions. BTW, the reflection on the water of the clouds is AMAZING Phil Long
November 26, 201312 yr Definitely go for more ram on the video card. GTX780's sell for about $540 now that the Ti is out, if its in your budget. Floyd Stolle www.stollco.com
