November 27, 201312 yr Dont' wont to moan, but I have spent thousands over years trying to get a realistic sim up and running. I confess I am obviously doing something wrong. I thought my problems of tweaking for hours and hours were over with the arrival of Prepar3d. I have a reasonable system: 16GB Corsair Ram GTX 780 Card 2 x SSD 450GB Drives 2 TB Hard Drive Haswell Processor and yet... 1. When I load Prepar3d it last s for about 10 minutes then I get a black screen 2. I can't change the time from say day to night, when I do I get a black screen 3. I find it hard to navigate around the sim, it doesn't seem as easy as FSX (maye I am not use to it) This all said I don't seem to notice too many others complaining about it or only beng able to fly for about 10 minutes. I installed everything on a fresh formatted drive. What am I doing wrong? When I fly it is amazing. Admittedly all my sliders are maxed out , except Autogen, which I don't like. Please help Thank you Paul
November 27, 201312 yr I read somewhere on lockheed Martins forum that if you switch to large windowed mode instead of full screen, you will be good for now. They are aware of this and will be releasing a patch soon. Good luck!
November 27, 201312 yr The black screen is a known issue and LM are working on a fix Its usually caused by exiting out of the application while still in full screen mode. In the meantime you have two options. 1.simply delete the prepa3d.cfg file and rerun the sim. Everything should work fine. 2. When the sim running, ALT+ENTER. to get back to windowed mod. The screen will still be black. Now, exit out and rerun and your back to normal. LM stated that it might have something to do with HDR but I've got it on and its works unless I forget and close the programme while in full screen.

Use option 3: simply edit the cfg: change Fullscreen=True to False and you are done. No need to delete the entire cfg for that (which would mean you have to change all settings again!) And this way of fixing it is also faster than alt-enter, quit and restart. ^_^ Option 3 really is the best. I have a shortcut to the cfg on my desktop and since I tend to forget things I always double-click it before I start P3D to check if Fullscreen is False. The entry is near the top in m cfg so I don't even have to scroll. Works like a charm. Anyway, to get back to the OP: I didn't post the above yesterday (when I read this topic for the first time) because the problem is that the screen turns black after 10 minutes of flying… He doesn't have that problem where the screen is black after starting P3D. So it must be something different...
November 28, 201312 yr Don't feel bad, and don't feel as if everyone else is having a grade-A experience straight out of the gate. It's been a couple days since I installed P3D, and I'm finally getting it to run pretty well. When I first ran it, I got the black screen, long load times, sporadically poor performance, the works. Upgrading my video drivers helped, as did following the instructions above. There also seems to be a "breaking in" period with complex software like this; it's almost organic. All I can say is that after a few days of minor tweaking, it got much better, and I expect it to get better still as I dial it in to my preferences. Stick with it!
November 28, 201312 yr Author Thank You guys for your feedback. I will try editing the CFG and see how I go. Paul
November 28, 201312 yr ......There also seems to be a "breaking in" period with complex software like this; it's almost organic..... I have always said this about FSX. You feed it something new, it coughs and splutters then eventually it digests it. My own view is that most woes come about by people trying to fix something too soon, instead of letting FSX get used to the new neighbours. Looks as though P3D isn't too different.
